With the unfortunate passing of Joan Rivers a gap was left in one of TV’s most caustic shows: Fashion Police. And on the short list to replace Joan and provide the brutal commentary is none other than NeNe Leakes!
According to sources, NeNe is going up against Kathy Griffin to nab the coveted spot vacated by Joan. The success of NeNe’s clothing line (which recently debuted on HSN) has helped to propel her forward in the eyes of producers. But also the continued popularity of NeNe who has commented time and time again that she has truly used her appearance on Real Housewives Of Atlanta to her advantage.

It’s no surprise that NeNe is a contender – she’s often Andy Cohen‘s go-to WWHL guest on nights when they do fashion critiques of big awards shows and she is certainly not afraid to say what’s on her mind. With NeNe making no secret that this will be her last season on RHOA, the NBC network is looking for a place to put one of their biggest stars. E! (which carries Fashion Police) is also under the NBC umbrella.
A source explains to Perez Hilton that the spot was supposed to go to Kathy until producers started considering NeNe because she has “serious comedic timing, but also because E! is looking to diversify their panel with a different ethnicity.”
The source goes on to explain that Tyra Banks (PLEASE NO!), Lisa Lampanelli, and Amy Schumer are also in the running. And of this alternate list Tyra is the most seriously considered, however, “E! is concerned she doesn’t have a sane strong enough point of view to fill Joan’s highly opinionated seat.”
And in other rumors that means Tyra and Kathy are probably ending up on Celebrity Apprentice next season (OK, I just made that up, but c’mon you could see it happening!)
Hmmm… well I think NeNe could certainly be a fun addition to the show. Of course she’s no Joan, but they certainly need someone with personality to boost that mess of a panel. I mean, Kelly and Giuliana are snoozeville and I can’t even remember the other guy’s name!
