Carole Radziwill On Jules Wainstein’s Food Issues, Mean Girling With Bethenny Frankel And More!

Carole Radziwill appeared on Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday night after the airing of Real Housewives of New York. She gave her two cents on Jules Wainstein’s food issues and her mean girling with Bethenny Frankel, and more.

Andy plays a few clips of Jules Wainstein’s bizarre calzone creation, dubbing it “The Twilight CalZone”.  He says that he thinks Jules meant it jokingly. Carole says, “Yeah, I think she thought it was going to be really funny. I don’t think putting Lidocaine, Percoset and all sorts of drugs into the calzone, I don’t think she thought that would be funny.”

Does Carole think it was funny that Jules put the fork, knife and cup in there? Was Carole being too serious? “No, no. I wasn’t being too serious. If anyone else had put a knife, fork and butter dish in a calzone I probably would’ve thought it was funny. But in the context of her being very open about her eating disorder, for the first time I thought ‘wow, okay, this is more than I can deal with right now.’ I thought she was trying to make a game out of her food so she didn’t have to eat it. That’s beyond my level of understanding.”

They laugh over Ramona leaving the restaurant with the plate.  Carole jokes, “well, we have already proven she is a thief.” Carole says that Ramona did not return the plate.

Carole’s thoughts on Ramona’s “intervention” with Luann? “I didn’t ask Ramona to do that. I did not want Ramona to do that.” Andy mentions that Carole maintains she’s fine not being friends with Lu.  “Yeah, I thought that when I first saw Luann way back at Bethenny’s barbecue I said ‘it’s okay, we’re not going to be friends. I don’t trust you, I don’t respect you.’ I said some pretty harsh things. I thought she was fine and we were going to agree that we’d be friendly but not friends and then it just kept coming up again and again. I guess Ramona is just loving her role as the peacemaker.”

They play a clip where Jules is telling Dorinda what happened with the pizza making and about Carole “going there” with Jules’ eating issues. Carole defends herself,  “She’s very open about her eating disorder. I just met Jules, so when I meet someone you try to get to know them and understand them better, so I’m just having a conversation. Like a normal..she talks about her eating disorder, so I ask more about it. I’m the kind of person who’s curious when I meet someone. I’m going to ask you questions and she’s very open about it.” Andy asks if Carole felt judgemental of Jules. “No, I’m not judging her, I’m asking her questions. With this group, they don’t ask a lot of questions and everyone thinks it’s a shock when I say ‘so, what’s going on?’ – I’m genuinely curious about it and I think it’s a way to get to know people better. But listen, I’m good. I don’t need to know anymore. I think they were rude for talking about me being judgy.”

Shiri Appleby is Carole’s co-guest on the show and they talk about producer-driven manipulation on Bachelor style shows. Shiri asks Carole if the Housewives have their own producers.  Carole says “nothing like that goes with the Housewives.” Shiri says that a lot of the RH stuff seems produced to her, “but that’s just me being a little cynical.” Carole says, “A lot of people say that and I wish I could say some of the lines we say were written for us because it’d be a good excuse for some of the dumb things we say. But when I was watching Unreal I was thinking ‘god, do our producers do that? Are they whispering in our ears?’ but it doesn’t happen.” Andy adds, “we couldn’t make this up.” Carole says nobody ever believes it but it’s true.

When asked if she thinks Luann’s wedding will happen, Carole says she hasn’t talked to Luann but she has no reason to think otherwise and believes they’ll tie the knot.

A caller asks Carole if she and Bethenny are a little too hard on Jules. “Mean girls is very 8th grade language. I don’t think of it that way. We’re not hard on Jules at all. Jules is very open about her eating disorder. I think I’ve only had one conversation with her about it. She does have a lot of food issues and the show mostly revolves around dinners and lunches and cocktails so we were around it a lot. I sometimes feel from her that it’s like ‘look, but don’t look. Ask, but don’t ask.’ It’s a very complicated thing to navigate. So, no I don’t think we were mean girls but we’re not in eighth grade either.”

A caller digs at Carole, saying that she always seems to agree with Bethenny and asks ‘do you ever stand on your own opinion?’.  Carole replies, “Do I always agree with Bethenny on the show? I guess so. I don’t agree sometimes with how she delivers her message but I think what she says is true and accurate. Everything she said to Luann in the Berkshires I had already said, both last year at the reunion and I just think the way I say it is different.” She says she has her own opinions, she just happens to agree with Bethenny a lot of the time.
