Candiace Dillard Bassett Real Housewives Of Potomac

Real Housewives of Potomac viewers finally saw the much-hyped altercation between Candiace Dillard and Monique Samuels. It happened on October 16, 2019 during an event thrown by RHOP co-star Gizelle Bryant. Of course, Bravo cameras were rolling.

The former friends were involved in a verbal fight that escalated when Monique grabbed Candiace by the hair and dragged her over a table. When Candiace was being put in a car and driven away for her safety, Monique rushed at the vehicle. Frankly, the fight was vicious, violent, and difficult to watch.

During RHOP Season 4, Monique, who was heavily pregnant, threatened to drag Candiace at the hoedown. Monique finally got her wish this season, but she also landed in legal trouble. Monique was charged with second-degree assault. She then went after Candiace with (spoiler alert) second-degree assault charges. Monique alleged that Candiace hit her in the face with a wine glass. Both cases were dismissed the Office of the State’s Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland in December of 2019.

E! News reported that Candiace shared her feelings about the incident on the September 28th episode of The Wendy Williams Show. And she didn’t hold back.

“This is never somewhere that I saw myself being at any time,” Candiace said. “I’m not a fighter. I don’t fight. It’s not what I do and having gone through this and having dealt with literally, the trauma of it. It’s not what I see my legacy being,” the singer stated. “I don’t want this to be representative of me or really in 2020, of Black women at all.”

Candiace told host Wendy Williams, “I’m embarrassed. I’m embarrassed for all of us. We are entrepreneurs, we are wives, we are mothers, we are enterprising women, we don’t do things like this,” Candiace remarked. “The fact that this took place, it’s embarrassing for me.” I believe that Monique should be embarrassed, but she probably isn’t.

So, what caused the incident? Candiace isn’t sure. “We are almost a year removed from the incident and I’m still confused,” she said. “I still don’t know what exactly I did to this person that would cause her to think that…”

Wendy commented that Candiace had suggested that Monique was “having an affair behind her husband’s back.”  Damn! Wendy went there. Candice denied that she spread any rumors about Monique. Candiace stated, “She never had a conversation with me about these rumors that she heard. I was never a part of a spin, a spreading, a plot. That was never anything that I was a part of.”

Candiace also slammed Monique’s account of the fight, calling it “poppycock.” Candiace continued, “It only comes out and becomes an issue after we have wrapped filming, because she was looking for any reason to justify physically attacking another Black woman on national television. And it’s embarrassing,” Candiace added. The RHOP star said that she is “still not OK” after the altercation.

The actress explained why she pressed charges against her RHOP co-star. “It wasn’t for TV. That was me watching this person, who physically attacked me, then show no remorse and double down on her lies and me saying to myself, ‘You have embarrassed Black women as a whole with your horrible behavior and I can’t allow that to be the case,’” Candiace stated.
