What do you get when you take two fired housewives with nothing to do and give them a bunch of money? A morning show! I guess. As we all know, Kelly Dodd was ousted from her role on Real Housewives of Orange County last season. While Kelly spent 5 full seasons on the show, newbie Elizabeth Lyn Vargas was one and done. Elizabeth was finalizing her divorce from her billionaire ex when she joined the show. Elizabeth was well-connected and seemingly fun, but she failed to connect with anyone on the cast. Or viewers for that matter. So Bravo scrapped her at the same time as Kelly.
Apparently the two kept in touch because now they are working on a television project together. Page Six reports that Elizabeth and two other investors are developing a morning show for Kelly and husband Rick Leventhal. A source said of the venture, “It will be an unconventional way of doing conventional news.” The aim is to get the show on our television screens by the end of the year.
Since Kelly was dumped from RHOC, she was also fired from her gig at Positive Beverage. The same sparkling water company that she spent the majority of her last season on housewives promoting. For his part, Rick “left” his job at Fox News around the same time, allegedly so they could be together in California. The couple then started a podcast together on Patreon. The pod features them complaining about the RHOC cast, ratings and anything else they can think of to stay relevant.
While it was previously reported that Kelly and Rick might be getting some kind of house flipping show, that has yet to be confirmed. Kelly said of the possibility, “We already have producers reaching out to us wanting to do home-renovation types of shows. But we are exploring our options and seeing what the best deal is for us.”
As for Elizabeth, she’s not just helping Kelly and Rick. She’s also got her own series in the works. The show, with a “rags-to-riches” premise, will be titled “Success of Unusual People.” Elizabeth recently released a teaser on her Instagram for the show. She captioned it, “Our new show will feature some of the brightest minds in the world who have come from rags to riches but now use their success & wealth to teach others & to give back to society.”
