Since reality TV shows purport to be reality, audiences feel rightfully cheated when they come to find certain on-screen events were more orchestrated than they were natural. As such, audiences are always on high alert for anything that smells fishy.
Case in point, Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky. As Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans know, the two revealed they were having marital struggles in July 2023. Once their relationship status became public, some fans immediately called it a tall tale, especially with how little has been revealed since.
Kyle and Mauricio have defended the truth of their claims multiple times. Kyle reasoned that faking marital troubles would be far too emotionally taxing for anyone to endure. Now, however, an observer close to the situation has disagreed with Kyle.
Why Kyle and Mauricio act “so vague and aloof”
A source close to Kyle and Mauricio told The Daily Mail that the divorce “is going to have people tune in to Mauricio’s show [Buying Beverly Hills] – especially since their daughters also star in it. So with both Kyle and Mauricio on very successful reality TV shows, there needs to be drama to stay on air.”
The source went on: “This is the perfect solution and it is why they are being so vague and aloof about everything.” As for the insider’s observations and predictions, they explained, “Their marriage has been on the rocks for years. But they are not going to divorce not when there is $100 million up in the air. They could double that by staying together.”
The insider’s comments are in line with what many fans theorized from the beginning. Plenty of RHOBH viewers speculated that the marital troubles were all to give Kyle a worthy storyline. Whether the plot was orchestrated or not, it brought fans in. Season 13 has, with near consistency, reached over a million live viewers each episode.
