Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough said “I do” to Hayley Erbert in August 2023. So, this Christmas marked their first as a legit married couple. However, Hayley’s recent medical issues made the celebration of this holiday even more meaningful for them.
Hayley was rushed to the hospital after performing in their show, Symphony of Dance in Washington, D.C. After she became disoriented, Hayley was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma. This is usually caused by a burst blood vessel. Consequently, Hayley underwent a craniectomy. According to Web MD, a portion of the skull is removed during this surgical procedure. Basically, the goal is to relieve pressure on the brain caused by bleeding or swelling.
On December 20, 2023, Hayley underwent another surgery to restore a piece of her skull. Afterward, Derek shared an update via Instagram. “With immense relief, gratitude, and overwhelming joy I’d like to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery has been successfully completed as planned,” he wrote. “We are profoundly touched by the outpouring of support and prayers from each of you. Your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy have been a source of strength and comfort for us during this challenging time,” Derek added.
Hayley and Derek shared their Christmas wish
Now Derek and Hayley shared a joint post on Instagram, wishing their followers a happy holiday. The adorable photo showed them cuddling and sharing a kiss in front of a Christmas tree.
“Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas! Cherishing the greatest gift of all. The precious gift of life and the love we share,” the duo wrote in the caption. Additionally, he wrote, “Hold your loved ones close and treasure every moment,” with a heart emoji.
