Candiace Dillard Bassett Reacts After Michael Darby’s Defamation Lawsuit Is Dismissed

Candiace Dillard Bassett never spoke about her legal battles with co-star Ashley Darby’s estranged husband, Michael Darby, on camera. All Real Housewives of Potomac viewers knew was the singer made allegations about Michael’s sexual activity and he brought a defamation lawsuit against her.

But a recent update on the matter had fans talking about the feud again. Meanwhile, Candiace is celebrating a big win, and the matter can finally be put to rest.

Candiace celebrates Michael getting “absolutely nothing”

People reported the Virginia judge presiding over the lawsuit dismissed it on January 3, and a final order was entered on the last day of the month.

The reason for the judge’s decision was based on a release that Michael signed for his appearances on RHOP. As a result, the judge determined that the Australian entrepreneur couldn’t maintain such a lawsuit against his former co-star.

The case was dismissed with prejudice, which makes the judgment final. But Candiace, who was forced to remain quiet on the matter until now, has a lot to say.

“I am incredibly grateful to God for protecting me,” Candiace reacted. “I am also grateful for common sense, the support of my family, and my incredible legal team for helping the plaintiff to get exactly what he deserves from me: absolutely nothing.”

Michael fought – and lost …

Michael put up a hard fight, and argued that the RHOP star, “demonstrated knowledge that her statements were salacious, imprudent, and/or would be harmful to Mr. Darby’s reputation.”

His team also alleged that Candiace’s comments were “intentional and borne out of evident hatred and disdain [Dillard-Bassett] has for Mr. Darby.”

Ashley’s estranged husband claimed he suffered, “public scorn, hatred, humiliation, ridicule, contempt and/or embarrassment” as a result. He was looking to get $2 million in damages. Half for compensatory damages and half for punitive. In addition, it was requested that the singer pay his attorney’s fees.

The Bravolebrity’s lawyers of Bynum & Jenkins Law also made a statement. Kenneth D. Bynum, Robert L. Jenkins, and Madison N. Gibbs said, “Bynum & Jenkins Law is honored to have represented Mrs. Bassett and assist in defending her name against these allegations.”
