Were you blindsided by the news of Porsha Williams filing for divorce from Simon Guobadia? You’re not alone. Even Andy Cohen felt caught off guard.
Although Porsha just signed her contract to make a return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Andy revealed he didn’t know anything about the trouble in her marriage. Apparently, neither did the other producers.
The timeline feels almost too convenient that there’s no way Porsha and a team of executives at Bravo didn’t concoct it in a meeting. However, Andy recently explained on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live how everyone behind the scenes felt just as shocked by the news.
Caught off guard
According to Andy, they never expected Porsha’s return to RHOA to revolve around a divorce. They wanted her to have a triumphant return. They intended for the casting to be a “victory lap” for Porsha. Instead, we’re about to see her navigate her second on-screen divorce.
Of course, Porsha’s divorce announcement also came just days after allegations began surfacing about Simon’s criminal past. Recent reports suggest that he has a questionable immigration status and might be at risk of deportation. Andy said all of that was a surprise too.
Andy explained, “First of all, Porsha announced last week that she is leaving Simon and I gotta tell you something, I was saying to the other producers of Atlanta, when the news started breaking about Simon and some of his immigration issues, I was like, ‘This is not…’ I was so surprised.”
If Porsha’s marriage troubles weren’t on the horizon, then you know Andy and the other RHOA producers started foaming at the mouth when they found out the news. Andy claimed that they would take Porsha in any way they could get her. Surely, this divorce just sweetened the deal.
“We would take Porsha married, single, picking up the pieces of her life, on high, on low, however she wants, you know, however she’s gonna be,” Andy explained.
He continued, “But we didn’t know, and this is really a big right turn from the story that I think all of us thought we would be telling.”
Regardless of whatever story Porsha is about to show on RHOA, we’re excited to have her back. When talking about the messy turn of events in her life, Andy said he was sending her nothing but love. We’re doing the same.
