RHORI’s Liz McGraw Explains Her Frustrations With Alicia Carmody Claiming She Was ‘Homeless’

Kathy Hilton must be pleased that her “homeless not toothless” debacle has finally been overshadowed. That’s because the last few episodes of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island have centered on the feud between Liz McGraw and Alicia Carmody, which began over the latter’s claim that she was “homeless” as a child.

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island star said she had a “kneejerk reaction”

To recap, earlier this season, Alicia revealed to her castmates that her father had left her “homeless” when she was a child. To that, Liz responded, “You were never homeless,” and said that because Alicia’s wider family had been there to support her, she was not “homeless” in a traditional sense.

That wasn’t the end of the matter, however. Alicia and Liz have continued to argue over their POVs in the episodes since. And, what’s more, other women in the group have also been dragged into the drama. So, months after filming ended, what does Liz think about it all?

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live this week, Liz said she had a “kneejerk reaction” to Alicia’s comment, and that she was only trying to protect her friend from potential backlash.

“She has always had love around her, and she was always clad in the best designer [brands]. So, for me to hear the word ‘homeless,’ it was a kneejerk reaction,” the housewife told Andy Cohen. “I was trying to prevent her from any local backlash from those of us who knew.”

“It was not coming from a place of malice,” Liz went on. “I never meant to downplay her feelings. I only wanted to protect Alicia.”

Liz might be confident in her stance, but the jury’s out on where viewers sit. “She didn’t want her friend to come off as tone deaf. I get it,” added @sollllmari. Meanwhile, @WatchPondering responded: “All she needed to do was apologize. Why do people find it so hard to be nice? Makes life so much easier.”

The Real Housewives of Rhode Island airs Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo. Episodes are available to stream on Peacock.
