Dolores Catania is speaking out for her close friend Liz McGraw of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island. She has some thoughts on how fans reacted to Liz and about her friend’s quick departure from the show. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star made it clear that Liz is happy but also clarified that she doesn’t think Liz got a fair shake.
Liz McGraw quit The Real Housewives of Rhode Island after one season
After an intense first season, rumors speculated that Liz may not be returning for RHORI Season 2. The star confirmed this herself with an emotional post on social media, much to the dismay of fans.
It was revealed that Liz chose to walk away despite an offer from Bravo. Some fans thought it might be because of her volatile interactions with RHORI castmates (especially Jo-Ellen Tiberi and Alicia Carmody). Others speculated it might be because of alleged legal “skeletons” in her closet (which Liz denied) or even fan backlash. In the end, Liz said she was grateful for her time on the show, and Dolores confirmed that Liz is happy with her decision.
Dolores also defended her friend, saying Liz did not deserve the backlash she got. She spoke to Tamra Judge of The Real Housewives of Orange County on their podcast Two Ts in a Pod.
Dolores reiterated that Liz is in a good place when Tamra brought up her exit. “She’s very happy,” Dolores explained. But Tamra pointed out that it was unusual for a popular Housewife to leave after just one season. That’s when Dolores brought up the viewer reaction to her friend.
“She got hammered on social media,” Dolores stated. “What did she do to deserve that?”
Tamra agreed that dealing with so much hate during a premiere season could be hard for anyone. “I would imagine your very first season and getting that kind of hate, it would be very overwhelming,” Tamra admitted.
Dolores added that there was much more to Liz’s story than fans saw. She said her friend was so generous and she wished more people got to see that side of her. But maybe in the future, right? After all, Andy Cohen said that the “door is always open” for Liz. Even Tamra said that Liz would be missed and hoped she might return one day.
