It’s official. Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr., has settled his divorce from his ex, Alexiana Smokoff. Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fans will remember when the then-20-year-olds snuck off and got married behind Mary’s back. Now, their marriage has come to an end while Robert sits in a jail cell.

Robert’s divorce and his recent arrest are very closely intertwined. The two split last year, and Alexiana filed an order of protection against him. In November, he violated the order and lashed out at Alexiana’s parents’ house. That outburst is what led to his violent arrest and months-long incarceration. She filed for divorce a few days later.
According to court documents reviewed by Us Weekly, the divorce has already been settled, as of last month. Alexiana attended a hearing on January 14, and unlike most of the messy divorces we’ve seen play out on Bravo, this situation was cut and dry. Robert and Alexiana don’t share any property, they don’t have kids, and one of them is locked up.
With all of that in mind, the court granted Alexiana a default divorce decree. No one is getting alimony, and there’s a restraining order still in place that bars Robert from harassing or threatening Alexiana. The only thing Robert has to do is pay her legal fees.
This update on Robert’s divorce comes just days before his sentencing hearing. He’s been behind bars since early November and pleaded guilty to eight charges. Robert’s lawyers claimed that his November outburst was because he was “slow to recognize and accept his marriage was over.”
His lawyer said, “Understanding and recognizing the relationship was difficult for Robert based on his religion and background. To him, marriage is sacred and forever.”
