When news broke of unrest in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, many of us immediately thought of the city’s most famous part-time resident, Vicki Gunvalson. The Real Housewives of Orange County star owns multiple properties in the Mexican resort town, so she released a statement to keep fans in the loop as cartel violence spilled out into the streets.

In case you missed it, violence erupted throughout Puerto Vallarta over the weekend after a top drug lord, known as El Mencho, died after being captured by the Mexican military. Cartel members took to the streets to retaliate, blocking streets and setting buildings ablaze across the city.
The widespread violence left many tourists stranded in Puerto Vallarta, but Vicki was not among them. She shared a message to her Instagram Story confirming that she’s safe and sound.
“Hi everyone, I’m safe and not in Puerto Vallarta. Thank you so much for all of the messages and concern. It truly means a lot,” Vicki wrote to her followers.
“Please join me in keeping everyone affected in your prayers,” she added. “Sending love and heartfelt thoughts to all who ended them right now.”
As RHOC fans know, Vicki has a long and storied history in Puerto Vallarta. We’ve all watched her whoop it up and Andale’s with the Tres Amigas, but before that, she had been a regular in the area. It’s her happy place.
Vicki bought her first home in Puerto Vallarta in 2020. Since then, she’s closed on several other investment properties in the area and has even fantasized about opening a bar there.
With all of that in mind, she’s very fortunate to have been away from the chaos this weekend. She’s currently busy filming Season 20 of RHOC. That orange might have saved her.
The Real Housewives of Orange County is streaming on Peacock.
