Britney Spears is facing the music. The pop star admitted to a wet reckless charge in court on Monday. She pled guilty in court to one count of misdemeanor DUI. This stems from an incident in March when she was pulled over for driving erratically, according to police in Ventura County.
The wet reckless admission is something prosecutors offered the singer as part of a plea bargain. It’s traditionally something they might give people who plead guilty to charges like Britney’s. Her blood alcohol level was reportedly 0.06 at the time of the incident, with the California limit being 0.08.
Britney will not serve jail time after her guilty plea
The (former?) Queen of Pop admitted her guilt to secure her freedom. NBC News reports that she was sentenced to 12 months’ probation and one day of jail in court on Monday. However, Ventura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson is counting the time she spent behind bars after her arrest as time served, meaning she won’t spend any more time in prison.
Last week, the report of a deal being offered by the prosecution was revealed. Given that no one was hurt when Britney was pulled over and the fact that she has a prior regarding DUI, she fit the profile of somebody who could receive the wet reckless offer.
Since this story first came out, Britney has been blasted by the media and those close to her. Even her manager, Cade Hudson, revealed his disappointment following that news. He vowed that she’d be getting the help she needs. Britney has since gone to rehab.
In addition to the probation, Britney must meet with a psychologist once a week and see a psychiatrist twice a month. Ahead of Monday’s court ruling, the Toxic singer posted a picture and a viral clip to her Instagram on Sunday.
