Teddi Mellencamp on Her ‘Sad, Down’ Days During Melanoma Battle

Teddi Mellencamp may have been a polarizing figure while on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but no one could critic her transparency when it comes to her melanoma battle. The RHOBH alum has used her platform to bring awareness to the illness, and urge followers to be diligent about checking themselves for anomalies, keeping up with doctor visits, and practicing safe skin care.

Teddi approaches her fans, often with a positive mindset. But one can imagine that what she puts forward on Instagram is not portraying the full range of emotions she experiences as she continues her fight against melanoma. And earlier this week, the Bravolebrity confirmed that to be true.

Teddi’s emotions “come in waves”

The Two T’s In A Pod co-cost invited followers to a Q&A on her Instagram Story. One fan asked how Teddi manages to stay brave and positive after battling thirteen melanomas.

“Instagram can be an illusion,” the accountability coach said. “There are times when I’m definitely positive and brave but there are also times where I feel really sad and down and anxious. I just know that they come in waves and I have to kinda listen to myself and do what feels best to me.”

Teddi knows what helps lift her moods, but that has it’s limitations at times as well. Certainly, it’s been a trying journey. Her most recent melanoma was diagnosed in September 2023, and the mother-of-three recently underwent an invasive surgery to remove the melanoma on her back.

“I know that moving my body helps,” she explained. “With that being said, I can only move my body to a certain capacity. I’m having one of those days where I feel pretty down today. But I think the big thing is just being open and vulnerable with the people that you love so that they can help support you. And know that you’re not alone and we can do this all together.”

Currently cancer-free!

Thankfully, Teddi is currently cancer-free but has to stay vigilant. And she urged fans to do the same.

“I got the final report back from my oncologist,” Teddi revealed. “‘Final report is all good. Some atypical areas, but no melanoma. We’ll have to keep a close watch on you, but all good now. I’ll want to see you in about 3 months. Sooner if you have any concerns.’”

“I am forever grateful to my incredible doctors, nurses, family and friends,” she concluded. “I absolutely will be diligent with my 3 month checkups. Please be the same with your skin checks. And, yes, I had to google what atypical meant. Don’t know why doctors have to use such big words.”
