Welcome to the recap for Next Gen NYC Episode 4. Last week, it was all things Charlie as he pissed off half the group. Brooks’ dad, Seth Marks, tried to offer positive reinforcement, but Charlie only thrived on the negative. He ditched his bestie Georgia at a club without telling her, and then he accused Riley of being mean to the girls he left with. However, Charlie took it to the next level when he imitated Riley waving her finger around. He later apologized but then admitted he didn’t mean it. What a gem. Would Charlie give a real apology for his actions this time? Here’s exactly what went down in Next Gen NYC Episode 4: “Apology Not Included.”

The dads took center stage as we got to see more of Brooks, Ava, and Charlie’s relationships with them. And they couldn’t be more different. Unsurprisingly, Charlie’s dad, Anwar, was the most judgy, while Seth and Damon were very supportive. Charlie also gave another apology tour, with Ava and Riley forgiving but not forgetting. And finally, Ava started beef with Adriana when she accused her of not giving fashion. This was going to go over well…

Brooks wanted freedom from his folks

It was another day in the city, with Dylan crushing it at the gym and Charlie … messing with some weed. Charlie told the producer, “If you see anything in the shot that looks less than attractive, just tell me so I throw it away. I don’t want to come across like a f*cking bum. Like, I’m almost 30. They’re really going to roast the sh*t out of me if it’s just like rolling joints and living in a mess.” Too late for that.

Later on, Charlie met up with his dad, who really is quite unpleasant. Who doesn’t like olive oil and vinegar on their salad? Charlie avoided ordering lunch for fear of his choice being criticized by his father. So his dad criticized him for not having a girlfriend instead. Cut to Anwar awkwardly squeezing his girlfriend, Talya, who wanted no part in this fight. Charlie shared, “My dad can say some f*cked up sh*t that isn’t nice to hear. The apple didn’t fall far in that regard.”

While Charlie’s Succession saga continued, Ava talked with her dad, Damon, about her frustrations with Charlie. And he had real life coach advice. Damon wondered why Charlie treated women so badly. He said, “I think he has to really understand what it means to like or love a woman. But first he has to know how to love himself.”

That is the kind of advice Brooks’ dad, Seth, needed to give Charlie. But another meetup seemed unlikely, as Brooks was miffed his dad met up with his friend. He explained to his parents he felt like they were too involved with his friends and he needed his own independence. Based on their baffled reactions, that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.

Ariana had Riley’s back

Georgia and her boyfriend, Omar, were going into business. He ran a crypto start up but also wanted to venture into owning a restaurant or club, thanks to … Ratatouille? To be fair, that move is ten out of ten. So, now he was getting investors for Georgia to own her own club. Things were going well, even though Georgia warned she’s been blocked many times. Omar joked it was a red flag, but he was all in.

Gia’s pool party was still a topic of conversation for Riley and Ariana. Over some Dirty Shirley’s, the two dished they were over Charlie and his “trauma” as an excuse for his bad behavior. Riley said, “He’s just too grown and too old to not put in the work to be better.” No friend treated her that way, so she was done with him. Ariana had her back, as Real Housewives kids knew how to hold their own. Ariana said, “If we need to throw that wine glass or shift that wig, we will evidently.”

And speaking of wine, Ariana celebrated with some when she and Hudson finally moved into their dream apartment. They were greeted by their neighbor, who informed them her apartment had been leaking water into theirs. So, they were paying $10,000 a month for a moldy apartment. Welcome to New York!

Meanwhile, Charlie grabbed what friends he had left to meet up at Talya’s house. Namely, Dylan, Georgia, and Brooks. On their way over, Georgia shared the sad story of her father having PTSD after September 11th, so he moved out and then passed away shortly after. This put her in many therapy visits, to which Charlie could somewhat relate. Soon they arrived, and Anwar greeted Charlie, “Took you long enough!” Here we go…

Charlie was hesitant to have his dad meet his friends, as that would be more ammo to be judged. But they had to film a show, so let the judgment commence. Anwar immediately made it awkward when he asked the group who was more handsome, him or Charlie? Then Anwar laughed and pointed his finger at Charlie after he crushed him in a game of cornhole. Georgia realized she was watching Charlie 2.0

Violins played a sad tune as Georgia told the group Charlie’s issues with his father. Her friend Nell interrupted, “Okay, but Charlie is like 30.” The music stopped as they all laughed. And speaking of turning 30, Charlie dodged his dad’s question on his career goals once he turned the big 3-0. In his confessional, Charlie said, “I just want peace in my life. And part of me is worried that I’ll never get it until he dies.” Eesh.

The next day, Ava and Brooks had a very different experience with their dads at the OSG Golf Classic. Or as Brooks called it, a golf intensive. Their dads were completely supportive, maybe too much for Brooks. Once Seth found out Damon and Ava hung out all the time, he raised his eyebrows at Brooks. But Brooks wasn’t ready to be besties with his dad just yet.

Brooks then filled in Ava on the drama with Charlie and his dad. Ava said, “For someone who doesn’t love the drama, Charlie’s obsessed. Charlie’s at the center of every single dramatic moment I’ve had this summer.” He also informed her Charlie said they all needed therapy while he didn’t. Ava joked she used to resist therapy too, but she was eight, not 30. There was no shame in getting help, and Charlie clearly needed some.

Charlie’s apology tour began … again

After realizing he only had three friends, Charlie decided to apologize to Ava and Riley. For real this time. All was well until he told Ava he wanted to lowkey hook up with Ariana. Ava said, “This is classic Charlie. Apologize for one thing, and then immediately onto the next bullsh*t item on the agenda.”

However, Ariana had no idea. She was too busy focused on her clothing line with Hudson. They met up with a designer named Ron for advice. Instead, it turned into Shark Tank, where they had to pitch to him. Ron noted their “enthusiasm,” but they were missing a business plan and a boatload of cash. Time to bust out that fried chicken money!

Chloe’s birthday party was in full swing, complete with the Too Hot to Handle theme song playing in the background. Lana the cone was definitely needed to check this group. Ava dished to Brooks about Charlie wanting to hook up with Ariana. Still, that wasn’t the gossip that spread like wildfire. It was when Ava told Brooks and Emira she was shocked Ariana was a designer because she didn’t give fashion. Was she jealous of Charlie giving Ariana attention, perhaps?

This did not sit well with Ariana. She said, “I just wanted to have a stupid little streetwear brand that I can build off of until I have the money, because, sorry, my parents can’t pay for anything cause I’m paying their f*cking bills.” Then Ariana plopped herself down right next to Ava. Hide the wine glasses!

Next Gen NYC continues Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. It streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
