Just days before cops arrested Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband on dozens of fraud-related charges, the Real Housewives of Potomac star was on campus at Wesleyan University, teaching a sociology course. A lot can happen in a couple of days! Now, her colleagues and students are reacting to the news, and of course, they’re just as shocked as the Bravoverse.
On RHOP, Dr. Wendy wrestled with the decision to leave her tenured position at Johns Hopkins University. Cameras rolled as she emailed her resignation later, and a few months later, she joined Wesleyan University as a “Distinguished Visiting Professor of Sociology.” According to the Wesleyan Argus, the university’s on-campus newspaper, news of Dr. Wendy’s arrest sent a shockwave across the campus.

Wendy joined the university in the Fall 2024 semester. This semester, she was teaching a class called “The Sociology of Reality TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia.” According to The Argus, she showed up to teach on October 8. The following night, the cops showed up at her house with a search warrant.
After the news of Wendy’s arrest broke, The Argus reports that the department head at the university sent an email to students to address the elephant in the room.
“It was a shock. Having taken her class last fall, I didn’t expect it,” said Mariah Wilson, Dr. Wendy’s teaching assistant. “I hope she’s well, and we’ll find out more once more news comes out.
Meanwhile, her students were just as confused as the rest of us when they found out the news. They’re in the middle of the semester, so the timing couldn’t be any worse. One of her students, Barry Zheng, spoke to the outlet about his reaction to the news. Prior to her arrest, he thought Wendy was a “pretty cool” professor.
“I was literally writing her an email that morning I found out, asking her about an assignment that was supposed to be due this week,” Barry said. “I just finished grabbing lunch at Usdan, and I ran into one of my classmates, and he was just like, ‘Yo, did you see the news?’ and I was like, ‘What news?’ and he said our professor got arrested.”
Barry continued,” I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ because I just met her last week. And then he showed me an Instagram post saying she and her husband got arrested for fraud. I couldn’t believe it.”
According to the outlet, another professor will take over Dr. Wendy’s class for the remainder of the semester. Her future as a “Distinguished Visiting Professor of Sociology” remains unclear.
