As more and moreBelow Deckcast members progress through different stages of land-life, us fans will be able to reconnect with some familiar faces. And isn’t it nice to see some happy, ecstatic brides-to-be or pregnancy bumps on social media? But most alums slip from our minds, like Below Deck MediterraneanSeason One deck hand Danny Zureikat, being hauled off on a donkey after a disastrous performance onboard. Of course, production likely prefers casting fresh faces each season. Especially with lower ranking staff, it’s one season and done with most of them.
But Malia was not the only one with whom Hannah had unresolved issues. Bugsy Drakewas reinstated as second stew shortly before Hannah’s departure. The two did not get along after working together on a prior season, and Hannah’s guard was up the whole time. And finally there’s Captain Sandy Yawn. Sandy not only fired Hannah and promoted Bugsy, but terrorized her tablescaping and management style for years. Some fans speculated that the three colluded to depose Hannah’s reign as OG Chief Stew. During the Season Five Reunion, Hannah sipped from a “I Need A Valium” mug. Nothing was resolved from that confrontation, and based on her new business venture, it’s clear that Hannah is not over it yet.
Captain Sandy Yawn has been the branded as the most intense of all micromanagers. The Below Deck Mediterraneancaptain has a habit of inserting herself into any crew drama, and therefore into more camera time as well.
Maybe Sandy does this because she thinks it makes her a good leader. Certainly it’s a management style, but Captain Lee Rosbach can run a tight ship without watching over each dinner service or assigning cabins. So it could just for her own benefit that Sandy waltzes on screen at any opportunity, especially to the galley.
Ahoy yachties! Welcome to Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht! Just one week after closing out Season 8 of the flagship franchise, we’re headed to Croatia aboard Parsifal III with Captain Glenn Shephard. Who is just nothing but a Canadian sweetheart and probably my favorite of the three Below Deck captains. And I promise that’s not just because of my obvious bias because we share the same name. He really is the best. Croatia, as a location, is also the best. And if the last time we were here is any indication (for Below Deck Mediterranean‘s iconic second season), we’re in for quite a ride.
Personally I’m thrilled to be covering Season 2 because I know a lot of people may have slept on Season 1, or didn’t it a chance. I didn’t watch it at first either. In fact, it was actually my very first binge of quarantine. Which is insane to think about now that it’s officially March and we’ve been doing this for a year now. But needless to say, I fell in love with the show. And it opened the door to me spending more time than I’d like to admit during the last year revisiting past seasons of both Below Deck and Below Deck Med as a way to escape and self-soothe during the pandemic.
Actually, it’s Izzy’s exchanges with bunk mate James Houghthat are just top notch hilarity. He may have been testing the waters with all of the ladies on board, but Izzy teases James in the way a sibling might. Izzy could have just not been that into James, and we would have left it at that. But the amount of male attention Izzy gets on social media since appearing on the show has inspired her to reveal her sexual preference. In a witty delivery that only she could create.
Bugsy Drake took over like a breath of fresh air, and Hannah went home. It could have been a low point for Hannah, but she seemed ready for life back on land. Since filming for the show, Hannah hit many life milestones. She and boyfriend Josh welcomed daughter Ava, their first child together, in October. Hannah also celebrated her birthday on Sunday with her family, and got a very special surprise this year.
Hannah’s boyfriend Josh is a pretty private guy, whose last name she’s never mentioned, and whose picture Hannah has never shared on social media (per his request), but their baby girl has already made her Instagram debut.
“I haven’t even seen tonight’s episode and I’m already angry about it.” That was the tweet that popped up on my timeline before I sat down to watch the latest Below Deck Mediterranean. Or something like that. After having now sat through a grueling 75 minutes, I can confirm that viewer’s harbinger of things to come was accurate. Remember when this season was supposed to be about girl power? Women supporting women? How cool it is to have the first all-female leadership team in franchise history? Yeah, that’s officially a pipe dream.
Tonight was the episode every Below Deck Med fan has been waiting all season to see. We knew going into the premiere that Hannah Ferrier didn’t make it through the charter season. That she left sometime in the middle of filming. Did she quit? Was she fired? All fans knew was that the chief stew was now glowing and pregnant. And that she’d given up her career in yachting (and on Bravo) to give a life on land a try with her boyfriend and daughter-to-be.
