Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Jen Shah

The Real Housewives franchise has its fair share of cast financial scandals. And as each scandal breaks, fans question  how the network vets their cast members. Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd supposedly violated California labor laws. Former business partners sued  Dorit Kemsley & PK Kemsley for monies owed.

Teresa Giudice spent 11 months in jail for bankruptcy fraud. Her ex-husband Joe Giudice was away for 41 months. Phaedra Parks’ ex-husband Apollo Nida who served 96 months. Recently, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah was charged with alleged conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. She’s facing one of the heaviest legal battles in Real Housewives history.  A battle that, if lost, will come with a lengthy prison sentence.  If found guilty, Jen could face a maximum sentence of 30 years.

It seems like at least one person on every reality TV show ends up facing tax issues at one point.  On Real Housewives of Potomac, we’ve (sort of) seen Karen Huger and Ray Huger owe “millions” in back taxes and Robyn Dixon make a $90,000 mistake on her reports to the IRS. Nene Leakes, Porsha Williams and others from the Real Housewives of Atlanta have had tax issues of their own. And in Beverly Hills, Dorit Kemsley and Lisa Vanderpump, despite their separate successes, have both been caught up with tax issues of their own.

It’s no doubt that the financial issues surrounding reality stars are more high profile no matter the situation. Hey, filing taxes isn’t easy for an everyday person, let alone someone on Bravo with several businesses, assets and expenditures to keep track of. And while there are honest mistakes, it is fascinating to read that those we think of the rich and famous might be facing financial woes off-screen, even if their on-camera appearances show otherwise.

Lisa Vanderpump

While several members of the Real Housewives of Orange County cast have been involved in their fair share of controversies, no housewife is more divisive than Kelly Dodd. It started with her low-blow attacks on her castmates regarding their age, appearances and more. Last year, she took it to another level when she made insensitive comments about the coronavirus pandemic and wore a hat that mocked the Black Lives Matter movement. She’s since apologized for her “stupid” comments, but even Kelly thinks she’s probably getting the boot before Season 16. But who knows, because Andy Cohen doesn’t necessarily think she’s problematic.

And now Kelly has found herself in a controversy with former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump. But, somehow, LVP was the one admitting to a lie and apologizing to Kelly. I know, it’s very off-brand for these two.

Lisa Vanderpump

Lisa Vanderpump’s days as a cast member of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are way behind her. After claiming to be “bullied” by her castmates, back in the  #puppygate days,  she left the show without looking back. Literally, she didn’t show up to the reunion.

For LVP stans, the ending was not a satisfying way to say goodbye to an OG housewife. It’s easy to wonder what it’d be like if she returned to the cast today. Could her longtime friendship with Kyle Richards be salvaged? How would she address Erika Girardi‘s legal situation? We already know she has a few feelings about that. And what would she think of newcomers Sutton Stracke and Garcelle Beauvais?

Dorit

The most recent dud of a season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills really made me miss the early days of the show. Namely, all the drama and extraness that the OG cast, particularly Lisa Vanderpump, brought to the table. The back and forth banter with her old BFF Kyle Richards. All of the swans and puppies who were treated like spoiled children. And of course, all of LVP’s dry British shade.

LVP recently returned to Watch What Happens Live to promote her new show, Overserved With Lisa Vanderpump, on E! network. And of course, she couldn’t make her return without throwing digs. at her former castmates.

Erika doesn't want to believe it

There’s hope for the next season of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. This is due to all the drama surrounding Erika Jayne. She reportedly gives an open and honest account of everything going on with her divorce from Tom Girardi and all of his legal troubles. But, we’ll have to see it to believe it.

I’m doubtful because there are reports that her fellow castmates, aside from Sutton Stracke, support Erika through the debacle. (Read: they don’t hold her accountable). It’s probably because plenty of them have recently gone through messy lawsuits. I’m looking at you Kyle Richards and Dorit Kemsley. They tend to hide their real issues from viewers behind a mirage of over-the-top glam. But thankfully, a ghost from RHOBH past threw some shade at Erika’s role in the debacle in a way only Lisa Vanderpump can.

Sutton Stracke Real Housewives of Beverly Hills RHOBH

By all accounts, next season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will revolve around Erika Jayne. This is due in part because most of the other cast has settled the majority of their legal problems – looking at you Dorit and PK Kemsley! If nothing else, hopefully we can avoid any fabricated storylines that are only meant to distract viewers from the real battles no one wants to talk about.

It goes without saying Erika has a huge job in front of her. After years of ALLEGEDLY allowing her estranged husband to deposit stolen money into her corporate account, now she has to act like she knew nothing about it. Erika will also face the challenge of playing the poor divorcee who is ravaged by her ex-husband’s deceit and infidelity. I wonder if she called Eileen Davidson for some tips. The streets are saying Erika has the full support of her cast mates during her performance trying times, but apparently Sutton Stracke is not playing along.

Garcelle Beauvais Sutton Stracke Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills

I am eagerly anticipating the next Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season. Hell, I’ll even settle for a trailer. I’m just dying to know how Erika Jayne is going to handle the transition from bragging about owning to two planes to explaining why she and her husband Tom Girardi lived lavish lifestyles after taking money from people whose family members died in a plane crash.

Based on Erika’s Instagram activity, I assume she’s just gonna ignore it all and try to distract us with latex costumes and outrageous hairstyles that she paid for via IOU. However, Garcelle Beauvais has said that Erika was a lot more open than she expected her to be.
