Yes, Real Housewives of New York City star Simon van Kempen has decided to branch out into a singing career.
Brace yourself as Simon, hubby of Alex McCord, unleashed his debut single, ‘I Am Real,’ on us today via Popeater. I Am Real is described as “a bass-thumping, synth-heavy dance track filled with defiant lyrics aimed at “cheeky tongue waggers.”"
“I thought ‘I Am Real’ is a fun song with lyrics that suit me to a ‘T,’” says Simon . “It’s cheeky and catchy and captures my four years on reality TV.”
Simon’s new song include genius lyrics such as “Gold and diamonds glitter. But the taste is slightly bitter. When wives attack behind my back, they trash me on the Twitter.” Are you paying attention folks at the Grammys!? When asked what artist is most similar to him, Simon states, “I’d say Jarvis Cocker, but I don’t want to be Pulp’d.”

i wonder why none of these ladies have ever opened up a clothing store like the kardashians have done.
you’d think that along with the clothes, the wife could also have a section of all the products from the other housewives – like rite aid does with a section of products ‘as seen on tv.’ then when the other housewives are in town, they can get together at the store as a gimmick to bring in customers & paparazzi.

Way to go Simon. Much better than Lulu’s “money can’t buy you class”, Kim’s “google me”, and whatever tunes from Gretchen that have bombed.
I could definitely see some people making a pop-culture hit out of this thing.
Frankly it would be a hoot if Simon becomes a bigger hit than TFTP. Kim would have a Nene-like meltdown if she lost the distinction of having the best HW hit.

From Lady Gaga….don’t be a drag just be a Queen. You go, Simon Van K! Better than any of the “Housewives”…you can dance to it and not gag. A bit Gary Neuman, a bit Devo and not bad. Simon is a rather fun guy.

They want to find products to slap their silly name on and just repeat the brand over and over during their shows and blogs.
They make a killing, though.
Teresa during the first season (when she wasn’t even that famous) made almost 100ks in 6 months on her website selling those stupid ‘licious’ baby tees and hair bows.
She was busted for mixing in her personal money with her website account and not reporting the income during the bankruptcy.

ugh, the song sucks, his voice sucks. As much as I hate Kim Zolciak her song is the best…..but that is because she had a good producer, Kandi.
Simon needs to get a JOB again. He appears to be riding the notoriety train and it does not suit him well. I liked him MUCH better when he had a job, but was around the wives on the side. He is now trying way too hard to be important to the show & Bravo.
@61 Kate – I agree. Tardy for the Party was the only really catchy song. Ring Didn’t Mean a Thing was OK too, but of course Kim had to let her inflated ego get in the way of moving forward with it. Hopefully Kandi has finally learned her lesson by now.

I actually kind of like it very 80′s pop which I love: of course nobody can match Simply Red for 80′s pop but he does ok for a ginger, Can’t get the song out of my head!

If I were voting for either simon, kim, or luann I would have to say simon wins hands down. At least he can carry a tune. Danielle’s is still the best voice wise.
I couldn’t even listen to it. This is an indication of how far the housewives show have gone downhill. Horrible. Used to be fun to watch and now it is all fights and self-promotion.
Simon well done! Much better than any other NYHW song! Countess should sing about growing up in Berlin CT a far cry from royalty, no blue blood there. She needs to listen to your song and be real.
Not bad at all, Simon. It does sound like 80′s synth pop. Has a Men At Work quality. Simon’s voice is quite all right, and I don’t get the impression that he’s tone-deaf. He hasn’t overreached his grasp, vocally, here. For a first timer, I say 3 1/2 stars! Nice job, buddy.
