Teen Mom Amber Portwood Speaks Out After Suicide Attempt: “I’m Going To Rehab”

A week after her failed suicide attempt, Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is now breaking her silence.

Amber, 21, gave an interview to Star magazine in their current issue, during which she revealed her plans to check into a California rehab center to get the help and support she needs.

“I am going to rehab for anger control issues and depression,” Amber tells Star. “I’m on medication at the moment to help me just relax. I’m getting the help I need from friends, family and counseling.”

When asked why she tried to take her own life, Amber had a hard time answering that question. “I’m in a vulnerable state right now, and I know people want a lot of answers. Unfortunately, I don’t have those answers yet, and I’m working on myself to get them,” Amber admits, adding that rehab is something she needs “to do to get better.”

So how is Amber doing today while she awaits rehab? “Before I go to California, I’m pursuing help with a psychiatrist,” Amber states. “I’m stable, doing OK and getting the help I need.” She adds that her daughter Leah is keeping her strong.

The suicide attempt occurred on June 14 after Amber suspected her boyfriend Gary Shirley had been cheating on her. She told Gary she planned to take her life, leading to a 911 call from Gary. She was then taken to an Indiana hospital and put under a 72-hour hold. There are reports that cops found her with a rope around her neck, and that she had also taken some pills.

Meanwhile, RadarOnline reports there was a review this Wednesday regarding the custody arrangement between Amber and Gary, and no changes were made. Gary reportedly has primary custody while “Amber has supervised visits once a week.”

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON AMBER’S STATEMENTS? SHOULD SHE BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO SEE LEAH?
