It's going to be hard to Breathe Again after processing this news. Sorry, I realize that was a horrible intro! Toni Braxton has recently decided that she is walking away from music after a twenty year singing career. I guess it was bound to happen. The talented songstress has now become more known for her family's reality series than her songs. Plus, like the majority of folks who have cameras following them around for our entertainment, Toni's been bitten by the acting bug.
The Braxton Family Values star is starring in the upcoming Lifetime movie Twist of Faith. However, Toni uses her strong pipes as well as her acting chops to play a Gospel singer torn between two men. It's good to know we'll still get to hear her vocals even if she's given up on making albums.
I'm not sure I'm ready for it, but ready or not here comes Braxton Family Values! The third season of the show staring Toni, TAMAR! and the fam is scheduled to premiere March 14th!
And the family drama resumes full-force. This season begins with a Braxton family trip to Europe, except one key member of the family remained state-side. That's right Tamar stayed home to promote her spinoff Tamar & Vince and her music career, which causes tensions among the group.
There will also be tensions when Toni decides to rekindle her acting career and puts aside personal drama to focus on her professional life!
A preview of the upcoming season is below.
Braxton Family Values premieres on WeTV Thursday, March 14th at 9/8c.

TELL US – ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT S3 OF BRAXTON FAMILY VALUES?
Tamar's new song "Love & War" which she wrote and produced with husband Vince Herbert is a huge hit for the reality star – and as a bonus it's also good. In fact so good that Lady GaGa is promoting Tamar's song on Twitter. With GaGa's support Tamar's hit made it to NO. 1 on the iTunes charts!
Money can't buy you class, according to Countess Luann, but if you're Toni Braxton's ex-husband, it can buy you a lot…illegally! That's the thing about declaring bankruptcy. I'm not going to pretend to know the inner workings of bankruptcy filing, but I do know that you have to follow some strict rules.
The singer and star of Braxton Family Values filed for bankruptcy in 2010, citing between $10 million and $50 million in debt. And I thought I had it rough! Now, Toni is being accused of fraudulently wiring her ex-husband Keri Lewis over $50,000 after the money had been set aside to pay creditors.
Reality stars never cease to amaze me. Namely, one Evelyn Lozada, but that’s neither here nor there. Vibe recently interviewed Evelyn of Basketball Wives, alongside Tamar Braxton of Braxton Family Values, Kandi Burrus of RHOA, and Chrissy Lampkin, formerly of Love & Hip Hop fame. The interview addresses the violence and drama fueled fights often highlighted on these shows, and the women, one in particular, seems to like laughing all the way to the bank. I was, however, extremely impressed to see Chrissy take responsibility for her temper. It’s a long interview, so I’m just sharing my favorite highlights. You can read the whole discussion here, and try not to laugh when Tamar says Evelyn is beautiful “inside and out.” Enjoy excerpts from that interview below!
ESSENCE.com: Congratulations on getting your own reality show. How did it come about? TAMAR BRAXTON: It was the fans of “Braxton Family Values” who demanded it. I kept hearing people say, ‘You should have your own show.’ They wanted to know what was behind the dot com’s and where I get all this energy from. I just thought it would be a great for them to see that there is another side. The Tamar on “Braxton Family Values” is real, but that’s me in the sister role. I do have another side: Tamar, the wife. I’m still animated, but in a different kind of way.
ESSENCE.com: How is Vince doing after suffering a pulmonary embolism in November? BRAXTON: We just got home after three months in New York because he was sick. He’s now walking, he’s not in a wheelchair. We’re grateful. He’s probably the healthiest he’s ever been. He had a pulmonary embolism along with a lung attack – which is like the heart attack of the lungs. We’ve changed our lives. He exercises, he eats right. There are no longer sodas in our house. It’s been a lot for us to go through. ESSENCE.com: So besides getting to meet Tamar, the wife, what else will we see on “Tamar & Vince”? BRAXTON: You’ll get to see that Tamar has a brain, and I’m a businesswoman. There are a lot of business ventures that I’m working on right now that I’m really excited about.
Meanwhile, Tamar and Vince grace the latest cover of JET magazine during which Vince shut down any claims that his wife is a gold-digger.
“I love my wife. This girl is so far from being a gold digger. I wouldn’t be with someone like that for nine years,” says Vince with Tamar adding: “When I met Vince I had my own house. I had my own car. I was independent.”
Vince continues, “We have fun, which is what a relationship is all about. Tamar is the greatest. Like, we’d just drive to Disneyland, then go to the movies and fall asleep. Because we are friends and you can’t stress that enough in a relationship.” Tamar also adds that she puts away her divatude when it comes to Vince: “He’s my husband, and I don’t talk to him the way I’d talk to a girlfriend.”
And congrats are in order for Evelyn Braxton as the Braxton mama is engaged!
A source close to the Braxton family not only confirms the engagement but also tells the Sister 2 Sister blog that Mama Braxton is set to tie the knot this February!
“She will be working out at the gym to be over-the-top fabulous,” said the source, who adds that Evelyn is “excited.” She should be as the mother of six had a bitter divorce with ex-husband Michael Braxton over infidelity issues. There’s no word yet on who Evelyn’s fiance is but a good guess might be the Doc, a.k.a. her new beau on the show.
Also, Towanda Braxtonand Trina Braxtonwith husband Gabe attended a birthday bash in Atlanta this week as Atlanta V-103 morning show co-host Frank Ski threw a party for his wife, Tanya. Some photos from that bash are below courtesy of FreddyO.
Finally, following last week’s episode which had Tamar displaying her over-the-top attitude… yet again, some are now wondering if Tamar needs to tone it down a notch.org.
Tamar blew a fuse last week when sister Towanda revealed she had to leave their rehearsals to be there for her son on his first day of school. Tamar not only got upset but also refused to perform unless she received an apology. In addition, she also got into it with the Braxton voice coach. So we have to ask: Is it time for Tamar to tone down her attitude?
A new episode of the Braxton Family Values airs tonight on WeTV at 9/8c.
TELL US – THOUGHTS ON TAMAR & VINCE’S INTERVIEWS, AND ON EVELYN’S ENGAGEMENT? DOES TAMAR NEED AN ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT?
The news series with a working titled ofTamar & Vince “will showcase Tamar Braxton and husband Vincent Herbert as they navigate their hectic lives, from Tamar’s solo album to Vince’s busy career as a successful music producer.”
Production on the show begins in March, and WE tv has ordered eight, one-hour episodes. “We are so very excited for this amazing opportunity,” said Tamar. “With our family series, Braxton Family Values, we aim to show audiences the true meaning of family and sisterhood, and with our new show, marriage. Our journey as two driven individuals that love as hard as we work is one we think audiences will relate to.”
The series will also follow Tamar in her ongoing pursuit of pop super stardom with hubby Vince helping and supporting her every step of the way. The press release promises “viewers will get an inside look at their complicated yet devoted relationship, including how their upscale lifestyle must adjust as Vince recovers from a recent life-threatening health scare.”
Tamar & Vince is scheduled to premiere in fourth quarter 2012. No word yet on whether Toni Braxtonis super jelly over her sister’s spinoff!
TELL US – THOUGHTS ON THE NEW SPINOFF? WILL YOU BE WATCHING?
On the last episode ofBraxton Family Values and pretty much every episode before that, viewers have watched Towanda Braxton struggle to take care of her family while her deadbeat husband Andre Carter refuses to get a job! And despite her so called separation from Andre, the two continue to live together.
In an interview with Art Terrell of Atlanta’s KISS 104, Towanda gets put in the hot seat and tries to justify her open marriage with the mooching Andre, who refuses to care for his family.
“You know what, with me being on the road all the time with my sisters and filming and stuff. I needed somewhere there of course with my kids. And if I’m not there, their father should be there,” said Towanda of why she wants to continue living with Andre.
Towanda continued, “With the kids, we do things together. But as far as our marriage we’re separated. I think that because you are separated and you’re not with that person, you don’t have to be mean and nasty. It doesn’t have to get ugly.”
When the host insists they’re not separated because, you know, they continue to live together (albeit in her sister Trina Braxton’s house), Towanda insists the economy is to blame for that. “We don’t sleep in the same bed. We’re like roommates… There are so many people now that are going through the same thing that I’m going through because of the recession, because of the economy. It’s affected so many people,” she stated. Uh uh.
Maybe it’s just me but in watching last week’s episode it seems Towanda still has feelings for Andre or perhaps she’s simply scared to be alone.
Moving on to Toni Braxton, who this season has been accused of sibling rivalry, particularly being jealous of her youngest sister Tamar Braxton and her growing popularity.
In an interview with Essence, Toni states: “I’m a little disappointed about what’s on the blogs, and people thinking that I don’t want to help my sisters, or that I want to make them perpetual backup singers. People have to remember that this is a reality show and some things are done for entertainment. I love my family, I’ll do anything for them. It makes me not want to do reality show anymore because I wouldn’t want anyone to look at my family and me in a negative light.”
“I love Vince, he’s great, but I thought it was a conflict of interest. He manages everyone in my family. I do think Tamar was disappointed because it became this public thing, and people thought her husband wasn’t capable. Its nothing like that, Vince is great for other people, for me as a family member, way too much,” says Toni. “There’s a little bit of truth to the idea that you shouldn’t mix business with family. You can’t separate when it’s family or business. If something goes wrong, I can call my manager and yell and cuss. I can’t do that to my brother-in-law, that’s not cool.”
So what’s going on between Toni and ex-husband Keri Lewis? “We’ve gone out on a few dates, I’m not gonna deny that,” says Toni. “When you have kids with a person, and you really love a person, but you realize that being together is not an option right now.”
When it comes to her comments about fame changing people, Toni admits fame has changed her sisters just a tad. “I do think success has changed some people. My sisters want to go the Ivy [restaurant in L.A.], and all those places with the paparazzi, whereas I’m like, ‘okay, I’ve done that. I don’t want to get dressed up to go eat.’ But I understand them because I was the same way when I first got into the business. I wanted to be seen, so I get that, because when you’re new in something you’re supposed to relish in it,” says Toni.
Toni also makes it clear there is no rift between her and her sisters, insisting the reason she’s been missing out on promotional appearances with them is because she was sick.
TELL US – YOU BUYING WHAT TOWANDA’S SELLING OR DO YOU THINK SHE STILL HAS FEELINGS FOR ANDRE? DO YOU THINK TONI IS JEALOUS OF TAMAR’S POPULARITY?
