Phaedra Parks On Skipping Apollo Nida’s Sentencing: “The Marriage Was Over”

Phaedra Parks marriage over

The much anticipated season seven premiere of Real Housewives of Atlanta focused heavily on Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida, specifically the fact that Phaedra was not “there” for Apollo on the day of his sentencing. I, for one, was annoyed Bravo spent so much time on Apollo’s version of his sob story. Then again, Bravo loves their criminals. Silly me.

Phaedra took to her blog to talk about how her life has changed since Apollo was sentenced to eight years in prison.

“Words cannot express the turmoil this situation has caused our family, and I can’t even begin to articulate how hard it has been,” said Phaedra. “When you face a situation like this, you can choose to either break down or stay strong; I chose to stay strong because I have two young children that need a parent to give them stability and keep the ship sailing.”

About her decision to be out of town the day Apollo was sentenced, Phaedra said, “I’ve been criticized for not being at Apollo’s hearing, but the truth is I had been there for him in so many ways for such a long time. By the time all of this went down, it was apparent the marriage was over and my focus needed to be exclusively on the well-being of our children. I don’t think there’s a parent out there who wouldn’t agree.”

I couldn’t care less that Phaedra chose not to support Apollo – I do not think I would have either – but I do think it was insensitive of her to take Ayden and Dylan out of town. First, what paparazzi? HAHA! Second, what if Apollo would have had to report immediately? Is depriving your boys that time with their dad in their best interests? I have zero sympathy for Apollo otherwise, but I do think he should have been able to kiss his boys goodbye that morning.

When asked about Apollo‘s request for a divorce, Phaedra said, “I have been on such an emotional rollercoaster that there really isn’t anything that would have surprised me. After a while you reach a point where you are so numb that nothing fazes you anymore. By that point my attention was exclusively on the children’s needs and doing everything I could to minimize the impact of this on their lives. My children’s health and happiness will always be center stage.”

Phaedra expressed gratitude to NeNe Leakes and Porsha Williams for their support. No mention of Kandi Burruss? Interesting!

NeNe and Porsha have been extremely supportive of me and very attentive throughout this entire ordeal, and for that I am extremely grateful,” Phaedra acknowledged. “Unfortunately, some of the others decided to use my personal crisis as an opportunity to further their own interests and talk to the media to get press for themselves. The lack of compassion was, at times, shocking.”
