Captain Lee Rosbach Below Deck

Below Deck Star Captain Lee Rosbach Says It Was “Uncalled For” When Brian de Saint Pern Called Kate Chastain A “Bitch”

How sloppy could it get last episode on Below Deck?  There was some sort of built up resentment towards Chief Stew Kate Chastain.  Yes, she keeps the entire crew waiting for her on their off time. And, yes, Kate uses rank to explain her tardiness, but it’s not as if she lounged solo to be elitist.  The girl just wanted some down time.

Brian de Saint Pern was out of step with the group for a while as he nursed an infected knee.  He emerged healed and anxious to police the “relationship” of Simone Mashile and Tanner Sterback.  Brian also picked up on the group’s tension towards Kate and Kevin Dobson was happy to encourage feelings of resentment towards Kate.  This all led up to the explosive situation between Brian and Kate in the taxi.  Then a stack of freshly laundered and pressed pants end up on the floor.  How did we get here?

Captain Lee Rosbach tried to make sense of it on his blog this week.  Unsurprisingly, Captain Lee sympathized with Kate and even defended her defiance in throwing laundry on the crew mess floor.  He said, “Kate, you are having a rough week. I know It can be tough when you are getting attacked from all sides. I don’t think throwing the clothes on the floor of the crew mess accomplished much at all, and was out of character for you, but I can understand an act of frustration.”

Captain Lee often says that he doesn’t want to “babysit the crew.” Apparently, he will make an exception to support Kate.  He wrote, “I certainly hope that things get better or I will step in and make some moves to correct it. Things cannot continue down this path, it’s not good for anyone.”

Kate was clearly triggered by Brian calling her a “bitch.”  Still, she can’t take responsibility for the fact that she kept calling him a “yachtie” after he politely asked her to stop.

Captain Lee also completely glossed over that and was quick to chastise Brian.  He wrote, “Brian, not sure what you were thinking, or maybe you weren’t, but calling Kate a bitch was uncalled for in my opinion, and I thought you were acting over sensitive about it. Just my thoughts.”

Captain Lee thinks it was hypocritical of Brian to be concerned for Simone while also speaking so aggressively to Kate.  Captain Lee opined, “you said at dinner that it really bothered you to see a women’s feelings hurt like Simone’s was, but that same thing doesn’t apply to Kate, and now you and the boys need to conspire to bring her down.  Down to where, because the level that the boys in the crew seem to be at right now is a new low for me.”

It looks like the crew will get a stern talking-to from Captain Lee next episode. Perhaps, the crew can work out some of their issues once they’ve sobered up.

TELL US- WAS KATE WRONG TO KEEP THE CREW WAITING?  SHOULD SHE HAVE SPENT MORE TIME WITH THE GROUP?  WAS BRIAN OVERREACTING?  ARE THE GUYS GANGING UP ON KATE?
