Craig Conover Calls Southern Charm Producers ‘The Devil’

What’s the deal with Bravolebrities biting the hand that feeds them? Especially the ones who still have a job? Looking at you, Craig Conover! Craigy is an OG of Southern Charm who has been afforded the benefit of appearing on other Bravo shows. Hopefully he doesn’t blow it.

Craig’s show has had its fair share of controversy and it certainly hasn’t stopped. It’s an incestual crew, a la Vanderpump Rules, and a lot of muddy lines have been crossed over the years. Now Craig shares his true thoughts on how production might guide storylines and lead grown adults into temptation. Us Weekly has the scoop.

Never trust anyone who says, “Trust me”

When you work with the same group of people, over time they might feel like family. It’s no different between the talent and the production crew for reality television. Except one side of the reality TV family’s job is basically to exploit their relatives.

While producers will influence storylines or “suggest” certain things to stir the pot, sometimes advice to cast members comes with the package. According to Craig, he “respects” his crew but calls producers “the devil.” He said, “Anytime they said, ‘trust me’,” he should have figured out they were planning to “get me good.”

Despite being “the devil” Craig no one has “ever purposely given me bad advice.” He’s also gotten some tips on public perception and how to play the game, courtesy of a sound guy. “He said, ‘Craig if you dress up in every scene, they can’t make you look like a [bum]. Don’t give them the option to show you not dressed up,’” Craig revealed.

“He was, like, ‘Dress just like anything [positive]. Dress for the occasion, you’ll perform better,’” Craig added. Good advice, actually. That said, Austen Kroll dresses fairly well and there is no wool sweater or tweed jacket in existence that can save how he comes off to the viewing audience.

Watch the Southern Charm producers make their magic Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
