Teresa Giudice and Joe Giudice were very much like oil and water—they didn’t go together. Well, scratch that. The Real Housewives of New Jersey couple probably worked well in the old traditional Italian upbringing until Teresa was given a bit of the spotlight and started having opinions. Until that moment in May 2009, when the series first premiered, Joe called the shots with Teresa quietly standing in the shadows.
The couple married in 1999, but their love wasn’t ever meant to be. Even after renewing their vows (which is a Real Housewives curse) in 2011, Joe and Teresa couldn’t find stable ground. Their interactions often left fans flabbergasted, not knowing how to comprehend their treatment of one another.
Joe’s Grapes of Wrath
Who could forget Joe sneaking away while on a cast trip to California wine country to speak with his mistress? The sketchy episode showed Joe stepping away to take a phone call, making a horny laugh and saying, “Don’t tell me that,” then “My c*nt wife is such a bit*h.” Shockingly, Teresa’s response was to make him screw her on the grapes. The suspicious phone call would have stopped most people in their tracks. However, instead, Teresa, who clearly caught the vibe, decided to ignore the red flag.
There had been over ten years of rumors about Joe possibly stepping out. Yet even though Teresa was humiliated, she chose to believe his cockamamie story about talking to a worker at his pizzeria who didn’t speak English. The entire interaction was bizarre, and this may have been the one and only time viewers’ hearts broke for Tre. Joe tried gaslighting Teresa and even pretended to speak Spanish, but the jig was up.
Joe Threatened to Smack Tre
Joe and drinking always went hand in hand with some form of belligerent comments. RHONJ fans will never forget the night when he consumed way too much wine and threatened to “smack” Teresa’s head against a wall. The episode that aired back in 2016 also showed Joe trying to do gymnastics on his marble floor and chipping a tooth, in turn, terrifying his children. The night’s festivities continued as Joe, who was awaiting his 41-month jail sentence to start, belittled Teresa about her inability to survive without him.
That same evening showed Joe demanding sex from his wife, telling her, “You better stop being so fu*king tired at night. Otherwise, you’re going to be out the door when I come out.” Teresa told Joe to leave, who continued his outburst, yelling, “Shut the fu*k up, please. Stop talking, you and your stupid mother. Let me tell you something, I can’t wait to leave. The only thing I’m gonna miss are my kids.”
Legal Troubles
In 2013, only four years after filing for bankruptcy, Joe and Teresa were indicted on 39 counts of tax charges and fraud. After a year-long trial, Tre was given a 15-month sentence and Joe 41 months. The aftermath was caught by Bravo cameras as Teresa became cold and blamed Joe for their issues.
Teresa was also at fault for never reading what her husband had her signing, but the foundation of their marriage began to unravel.
Another Cheating Allegation
While Teresa was in jail in Connecticut, rumors circulated via Us Weekly that Joe cheated on his wife with a woman named Jamie Jackson, who he claims he met with only twice and “nothing” happened.
Jamie was a model/waitress in Atlantic City that had been snapped with Juciy Joe a few times. Joe never seemed phased by being caught in his multiple scandals, but they sure pushed Teresa away.
Italy Spelled the End
Possibly the most emotional moment, which translated to the worst for the couple, was when the two met back up in 2019 in Italy after Joe was deported from the United States.
It was clear Teresa had moved on and didn’t want a romantic relationship with Joe. The two ended their marriage and allowed their daughters to visit with their father without the drama. This was the one and only time that Joe took his own advice and shut up and listened to Tre.
