Brynn Whitfield Reveals How She Was Cast on RHONY

The Real Housewives of New York made headlines earlier this year when it announced its return and complete reboot of the cast. And while many fans were excited to welcome RHONY back, others were skeptical of the new Housewives crew.

How did Bravo find these unique and diverse ladies? Well, Brynn Whitfield shared more about how she made it onto the show in a recent interview. She joked about how she thought it was all just a big joke, but in the end, it turned out to be the real deal.

The classic casting story

Funnily enough, Brynn’s story is similar to the classic stereotypical casting stories of several TV personalities, actors, and singers in entertainment. A friend recommended her.

“I got on it through a mutual friend,” Brynn said. “They wanted her to do it, and she was like, ‘I’m not going to do it.’ So she gave them a list of names, and they reached out to me.”

The freelance communications specialist said that when she first got the call, she thought it was some “massive joke.”

“I was like, what? Why me?” she shared. “I’m not married. I’m not like Mrs. Bloomberg. I rent,” she quipped with a laugh.

Brynn added that she wasn’t even dating anyone at the moment, although she has had a lot of engagements under her belt. (I wonder how many engagements constitute a lot?)

Three Zooms to RHONY

But the offer to potentially interview to be a housewife was true. So she did what everyone does before an interview — she got drunk.

“I got drunk before each interview,” she laughed. “I was super silly, and I thought it was going to be a very funny story to tell forever. Like, guess what I did?”

But her silly and fun demeanor and candor turned out to be perfect and just what the producers were looking for for the new RHONY reboot cast. So three short Zoom interviews later, she was officially asked to be part of the show.

And now her big personality is part of the show, and she’s found, according to Sai De Silva, a “new family.”

And as for us, we’ve found new dramas, alliances, and lifestyles back in the Big Apple with Brynn and the new RHONY crew. Time will tell if this iteration of the show will continue down the path of its predecessor and keep going past this first season.

The Real Housewives of New York Season 14 is available to stream now on Peacock.
