The Traitors Season 2 is nail-biting reality TV at its finest. This game of deception, set in a castle in Scotland, is addictive. They secretly selected Traitors to murder one Faithful each night. And the Faithfuls try to vote out the Traitors at nightly roundtable meetings.

At stake is a $250,000 prize. Any Faithfuls who make it to the end will split the cash. But if a Traitor has schemed their way to the finale? Then they take the entire prize.

During Episode 5 of the second season, host Alan Cumming served his guests a shocking surprise. He brought back Below Deck alum Kate Chastain to shake up the game. During Season 1, Kate’s name was constantly thrown out as being a Traitor by the Faithfuls. And the Traitors didn’t murder her because she was creating so much chaos in the game.

Somehow, Kate was the final contestant eliminated ahead of the Season 1 finale. And now she has a second shot at playing the game, again as a Faithful. However, the group was told that she could also be a Traitor. Here’s why bringing back Kate Chastain on The Traitors was a brilliant move.

She Has Experience Playing the Game

During Season 1, a frustrated Kate, tired of being a pawn, actually tossed thousands of dollars out of the prize pot during a challenge. After all, if Kate wasn’t going to get the cash, no one else should, either. But her fighting spirit endeared her to Alan.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen and Alan discussed Kate’s appearance in the first season. Andy asked why the entire house was out to get Kate.

“Because I mean they’re like so, it’s like Lord of the Flies. They have a pack mentality and when she…she was a bit of a bitch for a while in the beginning. I think they all just turned on her for the wrong reasons,” Alan explained. “I find her hilarious.”

So far, none of the Faithfuls have managed to banish a Traitor, so bringing in a player who knows the ropes could help the group.

After Kate took her seat at the roundtable, she quipped, “Tell me everything! Who do we hate?”

In her confessional, Kate voiced her objective for the second time on the show. She stated that she was there to “f—k up some s—t.” Kate also shared her love for the roundtable process in her confessional. “I love a roundtable. I love the communication. I love the drama,” Kate said. She added, “I love talking shit.”

During Season 1, who can forget Kate randomly bellowing, “Rachel [Reilly] is a Traitor!” And Kate’s dislike of Rachel’s fashion played a role in that feud.

But Kate shone at the roundtables, where she regularly begged to be banished. She was too valuable for the Traitors, who used her as a sassy, smack-talking human shield.

While Kate may have been playing a game as a lone wolf, she still managed to place fifth in the competition. That is amazing considering that most of the other players wanted her banished. And her witty comments and desire to leave the game endeared her to viewers.

Kate told PEOPLE, “What makes my return to The Traitors so exciting is that no one saw it coming … myself included! I was willing to give it another go because I knew the cast this year was stacked with so many big, fun personalities,” Kate stated. “And let’s face it: when Alan Cumming invites you back to his castle, you go!”

Still, Kate is intelligent, organized, and analytical. She utilized all those skills as a Chief Stew, and of course, they come in handy in this game.

Our former Below Deck star is no shrinking violet. She will tell anyone exactly how she feels about them. We already saw a glimpse of Kate’s confident demeanor during her first roundtable.

She asked Mercedes “MJ” Javid the name of the man who was speaking. Bling Empire star Kevin Kreider aggressively told Kate to “listen.” She clapped back, “Yeah. I got it. You think Janelle [Pierzina’s] a Traitor. Got it.” Kevin had better sleep with one eye open.

This queen of The Traitors doesn’t play a quiet game, and it perfectly suits her personality. While some players are weighing their strategy, Kate is thinking about murdering you if you grab the last muffin. And she is a Faithful! That is why bringing back Kate was a brilliant move for The Traitors. Let the mayhem, and murders, continue!
