Brock Davies Argues With Scheana Shay and Her Mom Over Mental Health

Since becoming a first-time mom, Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay struggles with obsessing over every possibility. She worries constantly that something terrible will happen to her precious daughter Summer Moon.

During the February 6 episode of the show, Scheana and her husband, Brock Davies, discussed her OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) diagnosis with her mother, Erika. Scheana has struggled to leave Summer with anyone due to “intrusive thoughts” of something going wrong. But she’s finally decided to ask for help from longtime friend Tori Keeth on a trial basis.

When Brock made a comment about his wife’s “inability to let things go,” both she and her mom took offense. It’s not about being able to “let things go.” Scheana has a genuine, deep-seated fear that something could happen to Summer, especially if she’s not there to look after her. Brock’s inadvertently making light of his wife’s mental health struck a nerve.

Scheana snaps back

“That’s not what it is. Just shut up,” Scheana snapped.

“Why did you just get so triggered?” Brock asked. I really don’t think he meant to belittle her condition. He just made a poor choice of words.

At that point, Scheana burst into tears, explaining, “Because she’s my everything … This is a really big deal for me to bring in someone else to help. That’s why I said, ‘Let’s start with Tori. Because I feel comfortable with [her].’”

Getting defensive, Brock argued, “I have been asking for this for months.”

“I just miss my wife just having a good day,” he added in a confessional. “Before we had Summer, we were this juggernaut … Now for Scheana, day-to-day simple tasks can become monumental and overwhelming. It is a lot of thought process … We don’t get anything done.”

Trying to help, Erika chimed in, “I just think sometimes you need to validate her feelings.” And maybe think before you speak.

Brock insisted that he does support Scheana, but sometimes he feels a little outnumbered by the people surrounding her. “There’s two of you validating her feelings right now,” he said. “You surround yourself with yes people.”

The air is cleared

By the end of the conversation, Scheana was more able to see Brock’s point of view.

“I think … he feels like I always have to ask for your opinion and your approval and your assurance,” she told Erika. “I hope I can get to a place where I’m not afraid to do things alone with my daughter. Where I don’t [worry] about something bad happening to her every day or Brock or my mom. I want to be able to enjoy living in the moment and not think this is the last moment.”

I actually get it. When you finally get all you’ve ever wanted, it’s only natural to worry that it could be taken away. I can’t tell you how many times I startled my infant son awake putting my hand on his tiny chest in the middle of the night to make sure he was still breathing. I get it.

As the three women wiped at emotional tears over Scheana’s mental health struggle, Brock made a positive point. “This is why I wanted to talk about it,” he emphasized, “Because clearly we needed to talk about it.”

Vanderpump Rules airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
