Welcome to The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 19, Episode 9 recap. Last time, Katie flunked her polygraph test, while Gretchen passed hers even though she lied. Then, radio host Kiki Monique confirmed that Katie told her the “roofie” story about Gretchen. Here’s what happened in RHOC Season 19 Episode 9: “Life’s a Beach … and Then You Cry.”
What happened in Real Housewives of Orange County Season 19 Episode 9?
Katie tried to bring proof to Jenn that the lie detector test was a setup. Plus, Jenn had a beach party for the RHOC ladies. And Tamra was able to begin moving forward with both Gretchen and Jenn.
Katie tries to convince Jenn that the polygraph test was fake
Katie met up with Jenn for coffee. And Katie didn’t come empty-handed. She had some weak receipts. “And I just feel like, what am I missing?” Jenn remarked. “And then I sit here after a stupid f*cking lie detector test … you don’t pass any?”
Katie brought out her printouts. “So, that guy that they hired? You know, he’s a paid actor,” she explained. “So, I think I was f*cking set up by Gina and Emily.” Then Katie asked, “Did you notice every question was a setup?” Jenn responded, “No.”
Once again, the duo went over Gretchen’s claim about going to the hospital after Tamra’s “naked wasted” party. While Katie insisted that Gretchen said that she went to the hospital, Jenn disagreed. “She said she felt like she needed to go to the hospital,” Jenn stated.
“She doesn’t want to say Gretchen said it for some reason, but she heard it and so did Ryan [Boyajian], multiple times,” Katie said in her confessional. In addition, Katie said that she took “accountability for the things where I misstepped. I did not lie about that.” Meanwhile, Jenn came to a decision about her friendship with Katie. “Katie lied to me the whole time, and that doesn’t work for me,” she said.
Gina shares her feelings about her ex-husband’s heart attack
Gina went to visit her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, and his wife, Britt. Gina loves how well she and Britt “parent together.” Recently, Matt suffered a heart attack, and Gina was grateful that Britt brought him to the hospital. In her confessional, Gina shared, “This crisis was so eye-opening to me because it could not be more opposite with Travis [Mullen] and his ex.”
Gina’s goal is to have Travis get divorced, so they can get married. Then, she has “some sort of legal recourse in the event that something happens to Travis, so I don’t lose my step-kids,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Heather, Jenn, and Tamra met up to dissect the lie detector saga. Jenn explained how Katie thought the polygraph was a setup. As Heather pointed out, her husband, Dr. Terry Dubrow, is a real physician who also works on TV. So, that doesn’t make the lie detector experts fake. Umm … okay.
Now Jenn’s new goal is to try and work everything out with Tamra. So, Tamra brought up the dinner where she mentioned Ryan and the FBI. “I admit I f*cked up and I’m sorry,” Tamra said. She added that this incident is what convinced her to start therapy. “Things don’t go this deep when you don’t really care about somebody,” Tamra told Jenn. “I wanna believe you, and I wanna move forward,” Jenn said, and they hugged it out. When Jenn was asked by a RHOC producer, “Is this a step in the right direction towards rebuilding a friendship?” Jenn responded, “It’s a step. It’s just a step.”
Emily worries about her son in RHOC
Emily, Gina, and Shannon went shopping. Of course, Emily spilled the beans about a call from Jenn. Emily shared how Katie told Jenn that the polygraph was staged. “It’s not a set-up. Just tell the f*cking truth, and you pass,” Emily remarked in her confessional.
Then, Emily’s son Luke called, telling her that he was going to take their dog for a walk. “I get calls like that all day long,” Emily explained. “He refuses to listen, he talks like a baby, he refuses to go to school ….” Emily was overwhelmed, and my heart aches for her.
“I don’t know how to help him. I’m so f*cking lost,” she said as she cried. “Shane and I, like I was actually to a point where I was like, ‘We’re going to end up divorced,’” Emily told her friends.
Meanwhile, Katie told her husband, Matt Ginella, that Jenn is still covering for Gretchen. “Do you know how many three-way calls I’ve been on with Ryan and Slade [Smiley], talking about what they told us at dinner?” Matt asked. He feels that Slade was trying to manipulate him. Slade? Never!
According to Matt, Slade told him that “Gretchen is going to deny it” and “Katie needs to hold the line and stay with Gretchen.” A text message from Matt read, “Katie finally fought back. Gretchen and Katie stayed aligned.”
In fact, Slade told Ryan and Matt about the “naked wasted” story while the ladies were in New Orleans. Matt told Katie that Slade and Gretchen “are out to bury Tamra, and Jenn left you out to dry.” Finally, Katie told her husband, “I don’t think I’ll ever be with these women again.” In her confessional, Katie said of Jenn, “I don’t think there’s any coming back from this. And really, honestly, I’m okay with that.”
Jenn’s beach party results in good vibes on Real Housewives of Orange County
Volleyball and a picnic were on the menu. Gina brought along Britt, and Tamra brought Jo De La Rosa. Of course, Gretchen was thrilled! Poor Katie didn’t score an invite. And each lady feasted on a croissant for lunch. After all, Jenn is on a budget.
Once again, the topic of Gretchen’s hospital visit came up. Tamra said that she was “confused” by Gretchen denying it after admitting that she went. “I don’t remember saying that, but if I did say that, I misspoke,” Gretchen said. Cue the flashback of Gretchen telling Shannon and Tamra that she went to the hospital the day after “naked wasted.”
The duo left the table to talk privately. “Do you feel like any remorse or anything when you said that I was cheating on Jeff [Beitzel] … when you called Slade a deadbeat dad?” Tamra replied, “There was articles about him not paying child support, so I mentioned it.” Then, Tamra pointed out how Gretchen spread rumors about Tamra’s husband, Eddie Judge, allegedly being gay.
Gretchen pivoted and apologized for contacting Tamra’s daughter. However, she expressed disappointment that Tamra wasn’t owning her behavior. So, Tamra reminded Gretchen that she had given Slade an apology in 2012. Can we step out of this time machine?
Gretchen reminded Tamra that she had hinted that Slade was a deadbeat father on her podcast in 2023. Surprisingly, Tamra wants to move forward, but only if they let the past go. According to Gretchen, Tamra’s accusations in the past stopped Slade from landing jobs.
Tamra apologized again, pulling her chair closer to hold Gretchen’s hands. Is this a weird fever dream? In the end, Gretchen agreed to move forward, and the duo held hands and skipped back to the table.
