However, sometimes that perspective can hurt a bit. And Vicki Gunvalson proved that when she told Kyle Richards that she let everyone down by “bailing out” on her marriage with Mauricio Umansky.
Everyone watched Kyle and Mauricio’s seemingly perfect marriage on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. That’s why so many fans (and friends) felt sad when the pair split. And it looks like Kyle is still processing her own sadness too.
Vicki Gunvalson told Kyle Richards she should be “ashamed” her marriage failed on RHUGT
Kyle and Mauricio split in 2023. Several fans thought they’d be able to work things out. Even Kyle’s sister, Kathy Hilton, held out hope for reconciliation. However, it just wasn’t in the cards.
Since the separation, Kyle has often shared that they are on good terms and co-parenting well. The family still takes trips together and celebrates big events. Everyone can tell there’s still love there. This sometimes makes it hard for the former couple when facing important milestones.
RHUGT’s sneak peek shows Kyle needing a moment before the ladies head to Beverly Hills. It was her would-be 30th wedding anniversary. Mauricio messaged her, saying her loved her and that “he didn’t know how they got there.”
“I thought we were stronger than that,” Kyle tearfully told Vicki, who came over to offer some comfort. Vicki’s comfort, though, proved to be pretty painful as she gave Kyle her honest opinion.
“I thought so too,” Vicki replied. She shared that her heart was breaking for Kyle, but that she thought that Kyle and Mauricio should be able to salvage their relationship. She believes that what they had “what everyone was looking for.”
Vicki even went so far as to tell Kyle that she should be ashamed. “You let your family down, you let your kids down, you’re showing them it’s okay to bail out when things get tough. It’s not okay. For me, it’s like, you guys were the epitome of staying together forever.”
It seems Vicki thinks she’s helping Kyle because she has regrets about her split from Donn Gunvalson. Vicki shared that no one told her the harsh truth and she wishes someone did, alluding that things may have turned out differently.
For her part, Kyle is scared that she’ll always feel sad about their split. And revealed that what bothered her the most was people continuing to tell her that she and Mauricio made them believe in true love, and their separation killed that illusion. It seems like, along with her own sadness about her marriage ending, Kyle can’t help but feel responsible for letting everyone down.
But honestly, Kyle never owed anyone a perfect forever marriage. Fans have to decide if they want picture-perfect or they want the truth. Sometimes it can’t always be both. The reality is that sometimes, marriages fall apart. All you can hope for is the grace to navigate the separation and hopefully continue to respect one another and co-parent with grace.
Kyle’s vulnerability shows that the pair still have love for one another, but that isn’t always enough to make things work.
