Real Housewives of New York fans were thrilled when Bravo announced a spinoff with fan favorites Sonja Morgan and Luann de Lesseps in 2023.
The premise of Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake was simple. Luann and Sonja leave behind their luxurious Manhattan lifestyle to help revive the small town of Benton, Illinois. Think The Simple Life, but for grownups.
Although the show was a hit with fans, it was short-lived, lasting just one season on the network. Reality Tea recently had the chance to chat with Sonja about the one-season wonder. She told us the real reason the show wasn’t picked up for a second season. Here’s what you need to know.
Sonja Morgan reveals why Crappie Lake Season 2 didn’t happen on Bravo
In our interview, Sonja revealed that Welcome to Crappie Lake producer Jeff Jenkins’ busy schedule was the reason the show did not return for Season 2.
“He had another show going on at the same time,” she explained. “So, you know, Crappie Lake went down the crapper.”
Sonja and Lu’s Illinois adventure may be over, but thankfully, we haven’t seen the last of them on reality TV. The iconic duo is set to star in the upcoming E! series The Golden Life alongside pals Ramona Singer, Kelly Bensimon, and recent addition Dorinda Medley. During our chat, Sonja teased that she and Lu will bring the fun to the new series.
“Everyone knows Lu and I are a lot of fun,” she said. “I’m her wingman, and there will lots of action.”
I don’t know if it can get better than Lu and Sonja’s visit to Benton’s local dive bar, but here’s hoping The Golden Life can replace the Crappie Lake-sized hole in our hearts. It’ll just be without Jill Zarin.
