Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s UK Move Renews Royal Status Debate — Report

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would reportedly move back to the UK without resuming their roles as working royals. According to a recent report, the Sussexes would continue their lives as non-working members of the royal family.

King Charles has allegedly made it clear that there would be no changes to the couple’s current status. They would continue to be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but nothing more.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly won’t return as working royals despite UK move

Reports of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moving back to the UK have reignited discussions about their royal status. When the couple stepped down as working royals in 2020, the late Queen Elizabeth II rejected their request for a “half-in, half-out” arrangement. She reportedly did not want the Sussexes to carry out royal duties while simultaneously pursuing commercial ventures.

Markle and Harry subsequently rebuilt their lives in California, seeking independence from royal rules and restrictions. However, their latest reported decision to return to the UK has raised fresh questions about their future within the royal family. Although they stepped away from royal duties, the couple retained their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, fueling speculation that they could potentially return as working royals.

However, PEOPLE reported that King Charles has made it clear to his son and daughter-in-law that their status would remain unchanged. The couple would reportedly continue as non-working members of the royal family. Meanwhile, those close to Markle and Harry reportedly believe the pair have effectively achieved their “half-in, half-out” arrangement.

With a base in Britain, Harry will be able to spend more time supporting charities such as Scotty’s Little Soldiers and WellChild, as well as the Invictus community. Meanwhile, Markle will continue to lead her lifestyle company, As Ever, while working on other projects.

Furthermore, the outlet reported that the monarch was informed of Harry’s decision on Sunday, August 16. Although the Sussexes have yet to confirm the reports, their spokesperson reportedly spoke to the BBC about the couple’s move to the UK. The parents of two are expected to settle in a new home outside London with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Markle and the children reunited with Charles and Queen Camilla in July after four years apart. As a result, the Sussexes’ latest reported plans to return to the UK have sparked a fresh wave of speculation.
