During the Southern Charm Season 9 Reunion, the GOAT of the series, Shep Rose, shared some startling information with the cast and viewers. After almost ten years on the show, the playboy of Charleston admitted that he had an issue with drinking. The news of Shep Rose’s BravoCon blackout didn’t take anyone by surprise as he has been very much living as if he is a rockstar. Since Season 1, Shep has done pretty much anything he wanted. From surfing to drinking on King Street every night, he hasn’t had to answer to anyone. But after BravoCon 2023, everything changed.

Shep’s Surprising Confession

Part one of the Southern Charm reunion showed Shep humbled to the core as he privately chatted with Andy Cohen prior to filming. In what could be considered an anti-climatic speech, Shep shared that BravoCon 2023 in Las Vegas was a complete blackout to him, noting he remembered nothing. The 44-year-old lamented, “I’m at a crossroads. I was out of control, drunk in Las Vegas. I scared the sh*t out of me.” Even the host acknowledged that Shep wasn’t OK.

The Charleston native went on to share, “I was blacked out. I can’t even tell you what happened at BravoCon.” Apparently, this was not the first time something like this happened. Andy filled fans in about how Austen Kroll and Craig Conover had tried to help their friend. Even though Shep acknowledged that he “appreciates” what Austen did, he revealed he had a “talk” with his close friends about the issue.

Did Shep Have an Intervention?

What confused fans more was the lack of details that Shep actually gave. It seemed everyone involved in the conversation was skirting around what happened. But it almost felt like there was way more to the story. Craig spoke his truth to his best friend. “This road that you’re on ends with a cliff,” he said. ‘I can’t be in that car anymore. That’s why I didn’t go to that meeting.” The 34-year-old confessed, “After BravoCon, it’s dark, but I was like, ‘He’s going to ruin his life and I have to be OK with that because we’ve been here before.’”

It was a hard pill to swallow for the Bravo star, who became a bit defensive. Shep came across as being in a very dark headspace sharing “I didn’t have anything. I thought, ‘Who am I? How am I of any value to anybody? You’re hurting yourself, bro.’” The wannabe rock star revealed he partied too hard sharing, “My body and my mind are telling me, ‘No, no no sir.’ I can’t do it anymore the way that I used to.” However lost he felt, it did seem that the Charmer had his back, with Craig sharing he was on a sober journey, too.

Shep Turns Over a New Leaf

Currently, Shep has stopped drinking liquor and shots, but most co-stars feel like he also needs to give up the beer. The statement, even if it was a little confusing, was huge for Shep. For anyone to admit they have a problem is quite a step, but it left everyone wondering if this would be the end for Shep in the series. Usually, if you have an issue with drinking, a Bravo show isn’t the place to be, as it is unhealthy on all fronts. It has been hard to watch Shep drink himself into a stupor, which has often shown him yelling at his friends and ruining relationships.

It is no wonder that his infidelity and his drinking affected his relationship with Taylor Ann Green. What Shep does next is up to him, but after the speech, fans hope he gets into a program and figures out how he wants to move forward. However, Shep speaking out has been very brave and hopefully will show others that they can change their lives at any time, no matter how old they are.
