Tom Schwartz Was ‘Hemorrhaging My Life Force’ for Schwartz & Sandy’s Bar

Tom Schwartz seemed to take the closing of his bar to heart. After putting his heart and soul into Schwartz & Sandy’s, as well as a considerable amount of money, the Vanderpump Rules alum was understandably upset when they had to close.

Perhaps starting over was therapeutic for Tom. And in retrospect, he was able to move forward in a positive way. But getting to that point, mentally, was a challenge for sure. Schwartz opened up on how much the closing really affected him.

Tom Schwartz spoke to Dorinda Medley about Schwartz & Sandy’s bar closure

Tom appeared on Sirius XM’s Reality Checked podcast to share the evolution of his feelings after the closing of Schwartz & Sandy’s. Host Kiki Monique asked the VPR alum if filming Summer House Season 9 was the “best summer” he’s had.

“Kiki, I wish that was true,” Tom answered. “I was going through it because that was the last weekend, that moment what you were watching was me coming to terms with the fact that the bar was closing. It was impending doom. Like before then, I thought there was a glimmer of hope that we were gonna be able to keep Schwartz and Sandy’s alive, maybe rebrand it, revitalize it, bring in some new partners.”

Tom revealed the timeline for closing the bar

The weekend that Tom filmed Summer House, he and his partners “all decided it was officially over.” He said, “We had just before then, oh, that weekend we had started planning a closing date and an announcement, and we had a strategy. We had an exit strategy right around that time.”

Tom felt like “a shell” of himself during that time. However, he also experienced “a wave of peace” to part ways with something that “took over my entire life.” The Bravolebrity added, “Like, I eat, sleep, prayed, breathe that place. I just did everything I had to it and I was drained. I felt like it was a vampire.”

Host, and Real Housewives of New York alum, Dorinda Medley was very sympathetic to her fellow Bravolebrity. She said, “We’ve all been through those situations and you know, when you finally decide to call time of death, although you feel sad, it’s like the first time you wake up that next morning and you exhale, you think, I mean, my God, there’s a period on this. I’m not happy about it, but thank God I can get up with a new set of feet, a new attitude and new intentions and move in a different direction. Like leave that road behind.”

Tom was able to empathize with Dorinda’s comment. He described the experience as “hemorrhaging money” as well as “hemorrhaging my life force for that.”
