It’s a big day in Los Angeles. Tom Girardi has reported to prison for embezzling millions of dollars from his clients. Tom, who is 86 years old, will serve a seven-year sentence for his massive scheme. In addition to Tom’s prison sentence, he has also been ordered to pay $2.3 million in restitution to his victims, plus a $35,000 fine. It’s an interesting ending to a story we’ve been following for years, and the drama isn’t over for his estranged wife, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne.
Tom Girardi surrenders to prison to begin serving his time
The disgraced attorney was sentenced earlier this year after being found guilty of stealing millions through wire fraud. As we’ve learned over the years, some of those victims included the families of the devastating Lion Air flight crash. His mourning clients were left begging for their settlement funds while Erika paraded around singing, “It’s expensive to be me!”
Throughout Tom’s trial, his lawyers argued that he was suffering from dementia. They tried to prevent him from standing trial because of his diagnosis, which failed. His lawyers also fought to have him sent to a care facility instead of prison. That also failed. Page Six confirmed that he has entered prison. Meanwhile, some of his last-remaining confidants have accused Erika of letting Tom “rot.”
As Tom reports to prison, his divorce from Erika lingers in the background. She filed months before his crimes were exposed and has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing. However, there’s been no movement in their divorce, and a court is forcing them to either take a step towards finalizing things or they’ll need to dismiss it. That hearing is scheduled for later this summer.
