RHONJ’s Melissa Gorga Reveals Wife Swap Secrets: ‘We Had Security’

Whichever genius at Bravo had the brilliant idea to do a Real Housewives version of Wife Swap deserves a raise. Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition will feature four Housewives trading spaces with regular people. We know it will be great, but Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga had some major concerns before she signed on the dotted line. Now, she thinks the other Housewives on the spinoff should be thanking her.

Melissa Gorga had worries ahead of joining the Wife Swap: Real Housewives cast

Melissa and Joe Gorga recently sat down on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live. Anytime a Bravolebrity shows up in that studio, they start immediately spilling tea. This episode was no different. During the chat, Melissa explained why she originally turned down the offer to join Wife Swap.

“I had said no before I said yes,” Melissa revealed. It was a hard, hard no.”

According to Melissa, she didn’t feel comfortable staying in the swapped house without producers and a security guard on deck. She wasn’t trying to end up being the subject of a true crime documentary.

“All the Housewives can thank me,” she explained. “There was not going to be, I had an extra layer of security. I said, ‘I’m not [going to] sleep there at night once producers leave.’”

Melissa continued, “I said, ‘When the producers leave, I leave with them. We are making a show. I’m not gonna stay in the house with this strange man, before I knew him, with this strange man and a family.’ I said, ‘Absolutely not. When the production leaves, I leave with them.’’’

At first, the producers weren’t on board with that idea. If Melissa didn’t stay overnight at the swapped house, it would kind of defeat the purpose of the show.

The RHONJ star recalled, “I said, ‘Okay, then a security guard is sleeping outside my door because I just watched a lot of things on Netflix. What if he just gets up and starts killing me, and what if this woman gets up and starts stabbing my children?’ I was scared, so Bravo then was like, ‘Okay.’”

Thus, Bravo hired a security company to join the Housewives during their stay. She said the swap lasted for four nights, and there was a guard with her the whole time to keep her safe. We can all watch the show peacefully knowing that no one got stabbed in the making of it.

Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition premieres on Tuesday, October 21, at 9/8c.
