NBCUniversal needs to run Ramona Singer her check! The Real Housewives of New York alum is making the case for her and the rest of her reality TV costars to get residual checks from the reruns of their show. According to Ramona, their show is just as popular as Friends and I Love Lucy, and they should be paid to reflect that.
Ramona Singer reflects on why RHONY was so successful
The RHONY OG recently sat down with Dorinda Medley and Kiki Monique on SiriusXM’s Reality Checked. During their chat, Ramona reflected on why RHONY became such a hit. She theorized that it had a lot to do with the genuine connections with the cast.
“We’re genuine friends. What made our franchise so unusual, we were all genuine friends,” Ramona explained.
“You had this bond, and Andy [Cohen] used to say, ‘I can’t believe after filming the reunion, your girls are all having dinner together. Who does that?’” Ramona recalled. “Because we had a general bond.”
Years later, the original iteration of RHONY remains one of the most beloved entries in the Bravoverse. Fans largely rejected Bravo’s attempt at a reboot. Now, Ramona said it feels “cray cray” to see the original show’s staying power.
“And what I think is really cray cray right now is that our show, I realize it’s an icon show like I Love Lucy and Friends, because I walk down, especially when it’s down in Soho or West Village, 20 year olds and 30 year olds, they’re approaching me because they’re seeing all the reruns,” Ramona said.
“‘Oh my God. You’re Ramona. I love you on the show,'” Ramona recalled of her interactions with fans.
She continued, “And they’re repeating it over and over again. Where are residuals, Dorinda?”
Residuals for reality stars is something that her former costar, Bethenny Frankel, tried to push for her in her since-abandoned “reality reckoning” crusade of 2023. The chances of that happening are probably slim to none, but even Dorinda agreed that it would be nice to get a coin from the reruns.
“That’s what I want to know,” Dorinda added.
