GTL? More like GTLol! Life may not be fair, but Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s skin is likely to be very fair given that fact he no longer has unlimited access to tanning beds! It’s a sad day for the former Jersey Shore star indeed.
In September of last year, Mike and his brother Marc were charged with tax fraud. Specifically, the troubled reality star was accused not only of failing to pay the state of New Jersey the full tax amount on $8.9 million in earnings, but also of filing fraudulent returns to make it look as if he had. In case you forgot (or totally missed it the first go-round…who could blame you?), Mike blamed his brother who he claimed managed his money and kept him in the dark about such matters.
2014 was a year for law breaking, court cases, tax issues, and bankruptcies from our favorite reality TV stars.
Below, we’ll update you on who owes what, whose divorce is a mess, who is suing, who is being sued, and who’s going to prison! In addition to adding several new cases to the rosters of law-dabbling reality stars, some stars continued to battle existing cases – such as Jacqueline Laurita‘s and Sonja Morgan‘s bankruptcies.
Meanwhile other stars finally resolved long-standing issues. Undoubtedly the biggest legal drama of the year was Teresa Giudice finally facing a judge and being sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to 4 counts of fraud, which all began way back in 2009 when the Real Housewives Of New Jersey star filed for bankruptcy for an incredible $13 million dollars of debt!
It’s no secret that I am a massive fan of the GTL. Sure, my gym is feeling inadequate when I only get 20% of my daily Fitbit steps while walking back and forth to the office copier with no other form of exercise. My tanning is of the spray variety, if at all…and that’s only for special occasions when orange is better than transparent. As for laundry, let’s not even go there. But I adore those kids of the Jersey Shore. I loved them when they were wasted fools making a mockery of everything Seaside Heights wanted to preserve, and I have enjoyed seeing them grow into actual normal(ish), successful adults.
That said, following Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’swalk down the aisle with Jionni LaValle (who recently lost his license thanks to a DUI) has been a lot of fun. Who doesn’t love to see a true friendship like Snooki and JWoww’s that was born of reality television. It’s a true rarity…like a unicorn, or a decent, handsome, rich guy who opens doors, pulls out chairs, and pays my student loans. That said, there were some guests missing from Snooki’s nuptials. I don’t really care about the whereabouts of Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, but where, oh where was my precious Vinny Guadagnino? Sidebar: is it weird that I have to look up the spelling of “notoriety” (I just did again…always want to put an “a” in it) any time I want to use it, but “Guadagnino” is ingrained in my own personal spelling bee?
It has been a busy couple of weeks in the life of former Jersey Shore star Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino. First he had to turn himself in to authorities after being indicted on millions of dollars of tax fraud. Then he had to appear in court on an unrelated charge of bouncing a check to an employee at his tanning salon.
But in his last court appearance of the week, was when Mike made a revelation that surprised even us. In order to get his tax fraud case postponed, Mike revealed that not only is he engaged, but he is also getting ready to film the new season of Marriage Boot Camp.
In case you missed it, on Wednesday, Jersey Shore star, Mike and his brother Marc, both surrendered to authorities on charges of tax fraud. The state of New Jersey claims that Mike did not pay his full tax bill on $8.9 million in earnings. In fact, prosecutors claim he intentionally filed fraudulent returns in order to make it appear he was square with the IRS.
His brother, Marc, was charged with conspiracy to commit tax fraud. Which c0uld have been a sign of the pleas to come, because Mike is claiming it is all his brother’s fault.
It has been a rough 2014 for Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino. His return to reality TV tanked — I mean, did anyone watch? He got arrested for brawling with this brother outside of his tanning salon. Yep, the same tanning salon where he later bounced paychecks.
And now the state that made him famous wants to throw him behind bars.
We've got a situation here. I blame people's awareness on how harmful UV rays are…and that's a positive. The only good summer color comes from a bottle that may or may not turn your ankles and palms orange. But isn't orange the way the kids from Jersey Shore taught us how to roll?
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and crew took take pride in having a skin tones that rival that of an Oompah Loompah, so it's no surprise that post-reality show fame, Sitch has attempted to capitalize on the GTL lifestyle that made him a household name. Unfortunately for the employees of his tanning salon, things haven't been so rosy.
The Sorrentinos will follow Mike, Linda (mother), Marc (middle brother), Melissa (sister) and Frank (older brother), showing their real lives…after reality. This is a whole new situation — pun intended — for Mike. On the Jersey Shore he was known for stirring the pot, partying for a living, crashing his head into a wall in Italy and eventually filming a season sober, after a stint in rehab. So will viewers appreciate or even like the new Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino? Famous for his bad behavior, TVGN is banking on the likability of his 'real' personality.
