Kristen Taekman is frustrated with Real Housewives Of New York! Although last season featured plenty of butting heads (and flung wine glasses), she believed the ladies really connected and had close friendships – this season with the addition of icy Bethenny Frankel and her demands, not so much!
While other Housewives have praised the show for returning to a more realistic format, Kristen doesn’t agree – and she also doesn’t necessarily agree that bringing Bethenny back into the mix was the right idea.
There is a “huge change in the dynamic,” Kristen shares, describing this season as “less intimate” as Bravo has tried to re-engage viewers by adding not just Bethenny, but another new Housewife Dorinda Medley.

Kristen places the bulk of her frustrations with the new season on casting. She explains Bethenny as “standoffish” difficult to “get to know” and more focused on promoting herself and her business ventures than truly participating in the show. Bethenny inauthentic and selfish? No…
Previous reports have stated that Bethenny has refused to air large portions of her personal life and refused to fully engage in filming ventures that she feels don’t coincide with the public image she wants, or aren’t vested in promoting Bethenny’s interests, but that the Housewives are fake playing nice for the sake of the show. Bethenny reportedly signed on to salvage her brand and image which has been decimated by her failing talk show and disastrous divorce.
“I thought that with Bethenny, it’s like you can’t judge a book by its cover,” clarified Kristen. “But I think my tune is changing a little bit. I felt that way a minute ago and now I don’t know. I can’t read the cover of the book anymore. I guess I don’t speak that language.”
“I feel like I was looking forward to really getting to know her and at this point I feel like that hasn’t really happened in a way that I wanted to,” Kristen further describes. Although Kristen does concede that she thinks it’s “great” that Bethenny is back – for ratings.
Kristen adds that having 8 full-time Housewives, has made the cast very divided simply because there are too many cliques.
“Some casts… were only like four or five women, so it’s more intimate. … If you’re a small family of four you can all sit down to dinner together and find out about your days,” Kristen illustrated to the NY Daily News. “When you have a family of eight, you’re sitting down to dinner and you might not get down to the other end to find out what they did.”
RHONY is still filming, including taking a recent cast trip to Turks and Caicos, but Kristen admits the cast isn’t as close and they aren’t spending as much time together because there are just too many ladies in the mix.
Interesting… I never would have imagined that Kristen and Bethenny would be the two not getting along. For some reason I predicted Bethenny would butt-heads with Heather Thomson or Sonja Morgan, instead. Well, well..
