Why It’s a Shame That Crystal Kung Minkoff Is Constantly Overshadowed

Newbie Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Crystal Kung Minkoff has a few seasons under her belt, but some fans don’t feel like they even know the reality TV star. Crystal stormed onto the scene with questionable leather pants but a ton of spunky attitude, which didn’t always sit well with the other women.

At first, it felt as if the older 90210 housewives were icing her out because she was a “dramatic millennial,” but Crystal had a sensible head on her shoulders, which every so often gets to shine through.

Crystal Needed a Warm-up Season

Some Real Housewives need a season or two to get the hang of things and figure out their footing. Crystal is one of those housewives. However, now that she is warmed up, there is no stopping her.

Crystal’s first season showed her clocked out, but who could blame her? After the run-in with Sutton Stracke where she was constantly cut off while trying to explain to the Georgia peach that saying she “doesn’t see color” was actually offensive. The amount of backlash Crystal got from co-stars and fans was hard to endure. Luckily, it didn’t mess with the mother of two’s confidence.

For her first season, Crystal found it hard to be quick on her feet and witty. When the other women questioned her unexpectedly, her answers were often a bit confusing. Thankfully, Crystal has loosened up and learned to polish her narrative, which has resonated well within the group.

Crystal Isn’t Into Details

One thing that Crystal is actually great for is she doesn’t consider minor details important when it comes to discussing anything with her friends. At first, Crystal came across as a woman who lived with a perpetually hyperbolic personality. These types of personalities tend to exaggerate things as being way bigger deals than they really are.

But as the seasons went on, it became clear that Crystal just wanted to talk a bit more about her feelings without all the excess baggage of minute details. If Crystal weren’t constantly overshadowed, viewers would be able to get a better read on the young housewife.

It’s Not Her Fault Bravo Cuts Scenes

It seems like Bravo isn’t giving Crystal a fair chance, as she revealed, via Deadline, that the network left a big scene on the cutting room floor. During a recent episode, viewers watched as Garcelle Beauvais opened up about not having a safe place to talk about her children and parenting issues. While it looked like Garcelle was left on an island of her own, it turns out Crystal actually stood up for her.

Crystal explained, “They didn’t show it, but I actually stood by her in that, and I was defending her, saying that had this happened to one of your children, you might have a different tune. I also said that had this happened to my children, I probably wouldn’t forgive anyone, ever. I would try to move on, but I don’t think I would ever forget.”

Every Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fan knows that the kids are always off-limits. It is a shame that Crystal’s monologue didn’t get any air time because it would have shown her having a major backbone against some heavy hitters, which include Erika Jayne and Kyle Richards

Crystal Is Honest

Since day one, Crystal has been honest about her personality. While some fans feel she is a typical mean girl, I believe that her confessional and interviews have been a bad edit. Yes, there have been times Crystal has come across as pretentious, claiming she knew everyone in the 90210 but didn’t know Dorit Kemsley. The shade is everything, and Crystal is good at it. Also, let’s not forget that Crystal is the 76th generational descendant of Confucius, and as her great-ancestor once said, “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”

The network just needs to loosen the reins on Crystal and let her run free. She is already proving to be a heck of an addition to the series, so let’s see what she really has to give to the franchise.
