Morgan Wade ‘Still Processing’ After Double Mastectomy

Morgan Wade is a talented musician in her own right. But the country singer has now become a household name for Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans thanks to Kyle Richards. The two have formed a unique friendship amid allegations of romance since Kyle’s separation from husband Mauricio Umansky.

Now Morgan is in the media for a much more important reason – her health. The 29-year-old recently underwent a preventative double mastectomy.

She spoke with People about her experience.

“I didn’t really process it”

Morgan had her surgery three weeks ago and excitedly shared, “I’m finally able to put a hoodie on! That’s nice because it was button-up shirts and anything that could zip for a minute.”

After learning that she tested positive for a gene mutation that significantly raises the risk of breast cancer, Morgan made the difficult decision to get surgery. The double mastectomy will remove the possibility of having breast cancer, which made the painful surgery worth it to Morgan.

She explained, “I would rather have done all this and never know if I was going to get breast cancer or not. I would’ve rather done this and have that peace of mind. Life is short, life is precious, and I’m grateful for the advances with science that we have the knowledge to be able to go and take care of these things.”

Morgan also opted to have reconstructive breast surgery as part of her procedure, which added to her healing time. Regardless of being prepped for what was to come, Morgan still felt the anxiety.

“I didn’t really process it. But the night before, I started to get kind of anxious about it, and I was like, ‘I don’t know that I want to do this. I knew I needed to do it, but there’s always that little bit of fear in the back of your mind,” she shared.

Morgan’s support system following her double mastectomy

One person who was there for her throughout the process was Kyle, who also connected her to Mission Plastico, who helped Morgan with her surgery. The non-profit provides no-cost reconstructive surgery and care. The surgery itself costs approximately $100,000 without any assistance.

For now, Morgan is taking her downtime to binge shows on Netflix and write new music.

Ultimately, she has no regrets about making such a tough decision. “For a while, it seemed like the word mastectomy was creepy or weird. It’s not something you want to talk about like, ‘I have to go have my breasts removed,’ We have to talk about that stuff more. The pain really is temporary. It’s so worth it, taking control of your health,” Morgan concluded.
