Andy Cohen Shares Thoughts on Pump Rules Finale Breaking Fourth Wall

If you’ve watched the Vanderpump Rules Season 11 finale, then you know that they didn’t just break the fourth wall. They drove a bulldozer through it. It’s becoming an increasingly common element on the Bravo shows, and Andy Cohen took to his daily radio show to weigh in on how it went down on VPR.

A breakdown on breaking down the fourth wall

On Sirius XM’s Andy Cohen Live, Andy talked about how Ariana Madix refused to film with Tom Sandoval. Some of her costars felt like she was copping out of her job and putting their livelihoods at risk. The producers tried to talk to Ariana, but she insisted that she didn’t need to be a part of Tom’s “redemption” storyline. All of this played out on camera, and Andy felt impressed with how the producers handled it.

“I love that the producers framed it that way. I thought it was really interesting. They kind of turned the show inside out,” Andy remarked.

According to Andy, this was a huge topic of discussion at the Season 11 reunion. The cast didn’t see the entire Season 11 finale until then. So, the cameras captured their fresh reactions to the broken fourth wall. Andy recalled how some of the cast seemed surprised that the show took that direction. As if some of them weren’t already concerned about job security, this probably really left them feeling uneasy.

“We showed it all to them at the reunion and that inspired a very emotional reaction and debate and I think everyone seeing it together really shifted the platelets in that universe,” Andy recalled.

He continued, “I don’t know if some of those people thought that what aired would air and that we would bust open the fourth wall in such an intense way.”

Although the fourth wall break has Andy’s stamp of approval, it’s still unclear what happens next with Pump Rules. We know that there’s going to be a production pause this summer. After seeing this finale, that’s probably for the best. Sources close to the show insist that VPR will return in some form in Season 12. But, how do they move forward now that the fourth wall has been completely demolished?
