Teddi Mellencamp’s singer-songwriter father, John Mellencamp, gave his daughter some great advice ahead of her recent stint on The Masked Singer. And after her elimination from this series, Teddi opened up, revealing her father’s suggestion.
John Mellencamp knows a thing or two about singing
This week, the Calla Lily character on The Masked Singer took off its mask. And underneath was none other than Teddi. During her emotional farewell speech, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shared how life-giving this new opportunity was. Basically, it gave her something fun and positive to focus on amidst her battle with cancer.
“I’m not a singer by trade, clearly, and so that part was challenging for me,” Teddi began. “Also, a big part of my memory has been askew since my brain surgery. So I was a little bit nervous. But I was excited to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something new, and it felt like it gave me a little bit of life,” she explained through her tears.
Also life-giving was her father, thanks to his timely advice and constant care. As a singer, John’s been there and done all the live performance things. So, as Teddi told US Weekly, John came in clutch during her stint on The Masked Singer. And this is what he said.
“My dad said, ‘Just sing loud and proud, and if you don’t hit a note, you don’t hit a note, but as long as you’re giving it your all, that’s what matters. And so that’s what I was doing,” Teddi recalled.
Teddi added, “Once I was singing a song, then I talked to him about it. I needed advice. He’s like, ‘Don’t go out there trying to think that you’re a singer. Just go out there and sing the song the way you would if you were singing along. Have fun.’”
