Luann de Lesseps On The End Of Her Marriage: “I Was Drowning And I Had To Save Myself”

After two Tom-filled seasons, it’s not at all surprising that Luann de Lesseps’ ex-husband Tom D’Agostino is still a popular topic of conversation on Real Housewives of New York.

She announced their separation right after they taped the reunion episodes, so of course, the cast still made it “all about Tom.”

In her first Bravo blog post of the season, Luann carried through with the Diana Ross theme from the first episode. She wrote, “Diana Ross, who I adore (obviously), sang, ‘Stop in the name of love, before you break my heart, think it over, think it over.'”

The former countess admitted, “I probably should have heeded her advice before I married Tom, but love is blind, and so was I. At the end of our marriage I felt like I was drowning and I had to save myself. I didn’t even have a chance to change my name, which in hindsight, turned out to be a good thing!” She really does look on the bright side of everything. Most people would be upset to end a marriage after seven months and Luann was definitely upset, but at least she doesn’t have to deal with the hassle of changing her name back.

Lu continued, “I’m so much happier now, and I’m grateful for all the support and kind messages I received. True friends don’t say, ‘I told you so,’ even when they can.” They really don’t. Luann’s friends and even the viewers were very wary of Tom, but there’s really no need to rub it in her face now. Sure, she does owe her friends some apologies for her response to their concerns and criticisms, but as far as the fans go, her relationship with Tom was a true blessing. And the entertainment still keeps on coming. It really is still “about Tom.”

It’s nice that Luann is able to pick up the pieces and move on with her life, but she could also do the same when it comes to her beef with Carole Radziwill. Carole didn’t reach out about Luann’s breakup. Luann didn’t reach out about hers. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Can’t they just both move on…. and argue about something more entertaining?

Apparently not. Luann wrote, “I was surprised that Carole didn’t reach out to me after Tom and I split. It hurt at the time but once we talked about it, I accepted her apology. She likes to keep her opinions to herself, and I respect that, but she could have at least called or texted. I’m not one to hold a grudge, and once I express how I feel, I’m over it.” Sure.

Now that Luann is done with Tom, his penthouse, and nights at the Regency, she’s shading her ex. She wrote,  “Dorinda [Medley] said that a leopard doesn’t change his spots just because he’s married, and that sums up Tom to a tee. He wanted to live his life as if he were still single and that’s not what I envisioned or wanted.”

Luann also took the time to set the record straight on something Sonja Morgan said during the premiere episode: “Now, I’m enjoying being single and contrary to what Sonja told the press, I’m not dating like crazy. In fact, I’m focusing on my health and well-being. I’ve been doing a lot of yoga and meditation, which has helped me to reflect on my life…where I’ve been and where I’d like to go. Life is a journey, and I still believe in love.” Live, laugh, Lu- right? Well, maybe that’s just my own personal mantra, but I’m here for Luann and all of her story lines this season.
