Survivor Game Changers

The Survivor Jury has grown by one, and soon it will outnumber those still standing in the game. As we enter the final month of Season 34, we said good-bye – or good riddance, if you prefer – to yet another “Game Changer” as we barrel towards the May 24 Finale of Survivor: Game Changers.

A Line Drawn in Concrete

Only “Booboo the Foo” would think it’s OK to get cocky when competing on Survivor. Tonight’s episode had more than one player boast that they “were running the show” and there was a lot of talk about “lines being drawn,” whether in the sand or in concrete. But here’s a prediction: Whomever ends up winning this season can draw a line straight back to the events of this episode, to determine just who ends up coming out on top.

It was explosive, emotional (in a good way this time) and really featured a pivotal Tribal Council that is usually reserved for the merge episode. Let’s get into the events of tonight’s episode, and remember, only read on if you’ve seen the latest episode of Survivor as this is not a straight “recap,” but more of a reaction/discussion of the episode.

A Line Drawn in Concrete

Last week’s double-episode of Survivor began the formation of the Jury, and left us with just 11 players remaining in the game. There are still enough contestants alive in the game to shake things up and blow-up the current power structure, but it looks like one person is about to blow-up their own game.

Let’s get you set and refreshed as we head into tonight’s new episode – you can access last week’s full interview with Ozzy and Hali, as well as a link to the Podcast here. You can also read last week’s recap here.

Survivor Game Changers

After the weightiness of last week’s emotional episode, Survivor gave us two scoops of fun this week, with a double-episode that did not disappoint. We witnessed the merge and we got to see a number of players jockeying for position in the game, now that the end is in sight. But a double-episode meant that we said good-bye to not one, but two players this week, both of whom will join the Survivor Jury and will cast a vote for this season’s Sole Survivor. I chatted with them both coming up.

There's A New Sheriff in Town

“Double Episodes” seem to happen at least once or twice every season on Survivor, usually during the very first night and then again sometimes post-merge. In seasons past, the “double-episode” seemed like a way for the producers to fly through what might otherwise be thought of as a boring episode, or a predictable Tribal Council. During Season 33, I ate my words in this regard, as we were given two of the best, most memorable Tribals of that season (forgive me for not remembering them off-hand, but look it up…I remember it as being awesome) during a back-to-back episode night.

Tonight’s latest two episodes of Survivor: Game Changers didn’t disappoint and things were far from predictable. But before we gather our troops and prepare to go to war, please be warned that there are spoilers to follow, as we will be discussing in detail the events that took place during tonight’s double-episode of Survivor: Game Changers.

There's A New Sheriff in Town

So what Episode of Survivor: Game Changers is this anyways? Technically the Premiere episode this season was a back-to-back night, meaning that it should have been “Episode 1” and “Episode 2.” Last week was technically the sixth “week” of the show, but was actually the seventh episode. Adding even more confusion, tonight will feature another back-to-back episode situation – yes, two hours of Survivor coming tonight – giving us what is actually “Episode 8” and “Episode 9” of this season, even though this is really just the seventh “week” the show has aired. Confused yet?

Number the episode however you want, but tonight will feature two episodes, which presumably means two Tribal Councils and two people leaving the show. There was a lot to digest following last week’s highly controversial episode, an episode that made national headlines after Jeff Varner outed Zeke Smith as being transgender. If you haven’t yet listened to my exclusive Podcast interview with Varner from last week, what are you waiting for? You can access the full interview and link to the Podcast here. Survivor Game Changers

It was a different kind of episode this week on Survivor, one that grabbed national headlines outside the realm of Reality TV sites. The line between real-life and “the game” was crossed unlike ever before and one player was given one of the most shameful exits in the history of the show.

What Happened on Exile, Stays on Exile

Survivor began over 17 years ago as a social experiment of sorts: What would happen if different people, from various walks of life, of different religious beliefs, ages, and ethnicities, creeds, classes, and color, were put together on an island and forced to vote each other out?

In the Summer of 2000, with Survivor’s very first season, this question was put to the ultimate test, and television’s best Reality TV show was born. The reason it has endured for 34 seasons is not just because of the concept, or the entertainment value…surely there are other shows that haven’t lasted half as long as Survivor, that included elements of strategy, competition, or battling the elements. One of the main reasons that Survivor has lasted for so long was on display during the latest episode of Survivor: Game Changers. There wasn’t a massive blindside (well, not in the normal sense of the word anyways). There wasn’t an amazing come-from-behind challenge victory. No idols were played. No, on occasion, Survivor crosses the line and enters into social relevancy, tackling topics that are far more complex in the real world but dealing with them in a real, human way, within the microcosm of the game.

Please be warned that there are spoilers to follow, as we will be discussing in detail the events that took place during Episode 6 of Survivor: Game Changers.
