Aviva Drescher was reportedly given the mid-season axe by Bravo producers for failing to meet filming obligations, but then they recanted and allowed her to return.
Aviva heartily denies she was put on probation and continues to insist that her position on Real Housewives of New York was never in jeopardy. "I didn't go to the Berkshires because I had to go visit my kids at sleepaway camp so I didn't film that weekend," Aviva told Elisa DiStefano at the Southampton Animal Shelter's Wine Tasting Benefit.
It's interesting that Aviva continues to deny the probation considering her intro was removed from the show's opening credits! "I'm going to be on the rest of the season," Aviva continues. "But if they do ever fire me, it's not something I would get depressed about. I could live with that."

As for whether or not she'll return next season, Aviva claims the network is not making decisions at this time. "Nobody ever knows for the next season what's going to happen until after the reunion." Aviva was the last lady to sign her Bravo contract after last season as her diva demands had her lobbying for more money and a whole slew of concessions.

LuAnn de Lesseps was also in negotiations with the network and was originally slated to return as a full-time Housewife. However LuAnn's main storyline was her relationship with Jacques Azoulay as they figured out their future together. Unfortunately the couple broke up and since there was such a long hiatus between filming and the actual release of the sixth season (which was long delayed), the network worried LuAnn's storyline with Jacques would seem too dated and stale compared to real-time. As a result LuAnn was actually demoted once filming wrapped.
LuAnn is reportedly returning as a full-time Housewife for the seventh season. (No, Bravo has no plans to cancel RHONY). Interestingly viewers seem to be liking LuAnn more than ever this season!
Tonight Aviva returns on RHONY and with her comes her pervy father George. Seriously, why?! Aviva has difficulty accepting George's much younger new girlfriend. And Sonja Morgan has difficulty accepting that her beloved dog Milleu has passed away so she holds a memorial service aboard a yacht!
