Luann de Lesseps Says Demi Lovato’s Sobriety Is An Inspiration To Her

Luann de Lesseps’ tenure on Real Housewives of New York has been an exercise in maintaining the image.  She’s been living with the Countess persona even though the title doesn’t apply anymore.  After her divorce from Count Alex de Lesseps, Luann kept up her persona and title.  It was only when Luann married Tom D’Agostino and lost her Countess title that, symbolically, the façade crumbled. During that relationship, she ignored all advice and evidence in favor of keeping the optics of a happy and successful marriage.

After Luann’s December 2017 arrest in Palm Beach, her battle with alcohol became public.  And it also became a focal point on the show.  Luann’s scenes became a dichotomy between the focus on staying sober, and her blossoming career as a cabaret star.

Luann avoided jail-time for violating her probation.  She worked out another plea deal instead.  Luann gave an interview to Access on July 16 and gave an update on her ongoing struggle to stay sober.

According to an article by Us Weekly, the “Money Can’t But You Class” artist said, “I’m doing great.  I am almost at 90 day [sober], and that’s amazing.  It’s been difficult, and doing it in the public eye has been even more difficult, so I take it day by day.  I’m at the point where I can finally go to a party now and not drink, and I’m OK with that.”

Luann revealed that she looks to another songstress for inspiration: pop star Demi Lovato.  Demi has shared her addiction struggles with the world, including a near-fatal overdose.

Luann remarked, “you know who’s really been inspirational also, is Demi Lovato.  Because she’s been very public about her struggle and I think it’s important.  I think a lot of people are struggling and they don’t know how to help themselves.”

Luann envisions using her role on RHONY as a platform to help others.  But it’s not always easy being on a show that centers around parties and social drinking.

On the reunion, Luann said that she felt her castmates could have been more considerate of the sobriety she was trying to maintain.  One person that has truly had her back is Andy Cohen.  Luann revealed that Andy has, “also been very supportive.”
