Kate Chastain Below Deck

Kate Chastain Thinks Hannah Ferrier Wouldn’t Have Been Fired From Below Deck Mediterranean If She Was A Better Chief Stew

The current season of Below Deck Mediterranean has been infuriating. On the most recent episode, Captain Sandy Yawn fired Hannah Ferrier for having Valium with her and failing to register the prescription with the boat. She also wondered if Hannah flushed the “drugs” down the toilet and chased Hannah down the dock to berate her.

Yes, Hannah broke a rule about registering medication. That is black and white. However, the way she has been treated has only heightened the stigmas associated with getting help for mental health concerns, especially since Malia White secretly took a photo to send to Captain Sandy and never fessed up to doing so. Neither of them demonstrated a shred of compassion for Hannah’s struggle with anxiety. Now, Hannah’s former friend, Kate Chastain, is speaking out about the drama. And, not surprisingly, she’s not on Hannah’s side here.

ShowBiz CheatSheet reported that Kate dished on this on an episode of Another Below Deck podcast. She said, “On yachts, you can get fired for your personality if people don’t like you.” She even admitted, “It’s happened to me, hard to believe, I know it was in the early years.”

Kate continued, “But if Hannah was a fantastic chief stew, hard-working, good team player, I think they would have been like, ‘Okay, you have a prescription and you’re such a valuable asset. You did forget to tell us to put it on the ship’s roster of drugs. But now we will. Thank God we didn’t get caught. Let’s move forward.'”

Kate was more direct when she said, “But I think, she wasn’t good at her job. Even when she was sober, she still wasn’t that good at her job. She wasn’t good for morale. To go around telling people ‘Kiko [Lorran] was my best friend and now I’m all alone.’ Be an adult. You’re basically separating yourself from the rest of the crew which is not cool.”

She said, “I think if she had presented a prescription, which she did not, and she had been a team player, good at her job, I think she would still be on board, but it’s just like too many things that were negative.” She certainly didn’t mince any words there.

Kate also mentioned that it was the “one year anniversary” of when she and Hannah had their falling out.

Kate remarked, “All drugs on board have to be reported on an official log because otherwise, we’d just be going from country to country with a bunch of drugs on board. That’s called the 80s.” She continued, “So, it doesn’t matter if you’ve taken them or not.”

Kate also weighed in on Captain Sandy wondering if Hannah flushed the medication down the toilet. And, once again, she’s on #TeamSandy, saying, “Listen, I don’t know about you guys but I tried that trick many times in high school. Sandy was kind of right.”
