All the Ways Chef Jack Luby Has Let Charter Guests (and Viewers) Down So Far

Chef Jack Luby is already dropping the ball on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8. The chef plays a crucial role on any Below Deck charter, as they are responsible for feeding not only the guests, but also the crew. Unfortunately, not every Below Deck chef is always up to par.

After only a few charters, Jack has already faced several difficulties in the kitchen. From his controversial takes on meal times to messing up simple foods, these are all of the ways Jack has let guests and viewers down so far.

Chef Jack Could Not Cook Simple Eggs

One of Chef Jack’s worst moments was the revelation that he cannot cook one of the simplest things of all, eggs. Come on Jack! During the first charter, a group of American charter guests requested eggs for their breakfast. As an English native, Jack admitted that he did not understand the way Americans ate eggs. He even went as far as to claim that eggs were simply just runny or hard. No!

The guests asked for eggs over medium and over hard, as it is typical to do. While Jack did not seem to understand the differences between these different types of eggs, they are crucial. When eggs are done over medium the yolk should only be slightly runny, however, when they are over well, the yolk should be fully cooked. The types of eggs are very different, and this is something that any professional chef should have mastered.

Chef Jack Also Hates Breakfast?

Not only can Jack not cook eggs to save his life, but he also hates breakfast entirely. During a confessional, Chef Jack revealed that he thinks breakfast is dumb and does not pay much attention to the meal. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so this statement is just wrong! Jack’s bad attitude about breakfast not only dampens the experience for guests, but for viewers as well.

Breakfast is particularly important on vacations, especially on one like a Below Deck charter. It is understandable that the guests would expect an elaborate breakfast each morning, that could of course include eggs! Hopefully Jack is able to step up his breakfast game for the upcoming charters, because there will definitely be guests who won’t cut him any slack.

Jack Also Isn’t The Best At Assembling Cheese Plates

Another flop from Jack was his depressing cheese platter, which did not even make it out to the guests. When the second charter guests arrived onboard, Jack prepared a cheese and cracker plate for one of their first meals. However, the plate looked empty and rushed, and just wasn’t appetizing. When it comes to these charters, it is important to remember the guests expect only the best of the best!

Chief Stew Tumi Mhlongo immediately told Jack that the guests did not want the platter, and instead wanted to go straight to having lunch. Jack acted visibly annoyed, which he should not have since the guests were already having a difficult start to their charter. It is perfectly reasonable to expect a full lunch when arriving, rather than a mid cheese platter.

Jack Needs To Get More Creative For Vegan Guests

Below Deck Med Season 8 has already seen several vegan guests, although Jack has not been the most prepared for them. During the first preference sheet meeting, Captain Sandy Yawn asked Jack how skilled he was at preparing vegan dishes. Jack responded that he was “ok” with vegan food, which did not impress Captain Sandy. Below Deck sees vegan guests all the time, so the chefs need to feel better than just “ok” about preparing food for them.

During the second charter, Jack initially failed to impress a vegan guest when she only gave his dish a rating of six out of ten. The most recent charter also has a vegan guest, who was left to order tofu and french fries after Jack’s first meal for her was not up to par.

It is truly disappointing to see Jack struggle with veganism, even for the viewers at home. Veganism has became much more popular in recent years, and guests who follow a vegan diet should not have to stress about their dietary needs not being sufficiently met.
