Brittany Cartwright on Jax Taylor Separation: ‘Only So Much a Woman Can Take’

Following nearly a decade together, Vanderpump Rules alum Brittany Cartwright has had enough with husband Jax Taylor, and the two are now going through a separation of sorts.

“Once a woman hits her breaking point, it’s like ‘Done,'” she said at the press premiere of The Valley. “Something, like, clicked in my head, and I was, like, ‘I need to step away from this situation. This is not healthy … My son deserves better. I deserve better.'”

After being Jax’s “ride or die for nine years,” Brittany is finally admitting, “There’s only so much that a woman can take.”

Their son is the “most important”

During their separation, Britt’s spent the time away from Jax “working on” herself. But as she explained to People, their two-year-old son Cruz is the “most important thing” and “all that matters” in this situation.

“I feel a little bit of relief,” she said. “I needed this space.” But the Kentucky native also strongly denied that the separation is a publicity stunt “for [their new] show.”

“If people actually have watched me over the years and know my personality, they would know this is not something I would do for our show,” she explained. “Like, I’m all about family. I’m all about marriage. I’ve been about that my entire life.”

She added that the separation was the best thing for their family right now because they have “been going through some things for a while.”

“We decided to take a little bit of a breather,” added Jax. “I’m not sure what the future holds … As of right now, this is just the best-case scenario, but this is not a publicity stunt.”

“Something going on” in their relationship

Revealing that production on The Valley has been going on for a “very, very long time,” Jax assured viewers that they’ll be able to see that “there is … something going on” in his and Brittany’s relationship.

The couple still sees each other every day and continues to work on their businesses together, including Jax’s Studio City sports bar. They have a podcast together, When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany.

“Nothing has really changed other than we’re not sleeping in the same bed right now,” the former SUR bartender shared. “We can still be together. We’re just kind of taking a breather.”

The couple first met in a Las Vegas bar in 2015 when they were both on vacation with friends. They had a brief split in 2017 after Jax was caught cheating with Pump Rules castmate Faith Stowers, but soon reconciled. They married at the Kentucky Castle in June 2019 and welcomed their son two years later.

The pair had been discussing trying for a second baby as recently as November 2023, but now those plans are obviously on hold.

The Valley premieres March 19 on Bravo.
